Think Positive!

It seems as though there’s usually threads about liturgical abuses, which priest is doing something wrong, what you would want to see change, etc. etc.

How about a happy thread?

Besides the most important fact that God is present/the Eucharist, what makes us proud of the parish we attend? Is it the reverence? Is it the homilies your priest says? Is it the choir? Is it simply the architecture of your Church?

Just thinking that a positive thread would be a good idea.

I’ll go first, I adore my parish because of the priest we have. He’s absolutely wonderful and he’s so easy to talk to. One feels like they can approach him with no problem. I also love the reverency at my Church. When you walk in its so quiet you could hear a pin drop (even when there’s 30 people there). Last but not least, I really like our choir, they work so hard and sound as perfect as a choir possibly could.

Is this the new fade in the Catholic church these days?

I mean I hate being in this position where I have to defend things surrounding the source & summit of our life. Maybe I think it’s supposed to be intrinsically present in people to see… I don’t know…

Catholics are not Calvinists. We don’t believe in a minimalistic approach to our faith, and certainly not the mass. We never have, never… eh.

Believe it or not, Pope Benedict XVI agrees with me! (See: Spirit of the Liturgy, and every article he wrote about the Liturgy & The Mass)

I guess this is what happens when people are so down about the state of the mass.

Well hey, Father isn’t so bad, he may spout off with some heresy, disagree with God (Yes I have been present when a preist disagreed with God) brings in the famed liturgical dancers, does the “mingling of the waters ceremony” and goes charismatic on you during the homily! At least he consecrates the Host… and even that may be in question!

Look my finite mind cannot comprehend what we have in The Holy Eucharist. So don’t think i’m in anyway diminishing it.

I’m just trying to help Catholics understand the meaning of The Liturgy.

Please don’t be sorry! I think it is a great idea…

I am a new convert and don’t have much experience with different churches. There are things that I took for granted in our parish until I had the opportunity to attend a different one.

I am glad to say that our parish is pretty reverent. It is a large church but most of the people are quiet and/or praying before Mass.

Our alter servers are always dressed appropriately and never “goof off”.

Our readers show proper respect for our Lord both in how they read and by bowing when passing in front of the altar.

I am sure there are many more things that I should be happy about…I will let you know as I discover them!

Thought of another one…

I often read about people having parking lot problems after Mass. Those same “people who gave you a sign of peace and smiled at you in the building now trying to run you over or refusing to let you in” kind of thing.

Our parking lot after Mass is very civil. People actually stop and wait patiently for people to cross the street, take turns letting cars out, and don’t squeal their tires trying to get out of there fast!

I would have taken that for granted if not for these forums and their negative threads, lol.

It’s so hard to write down everything we are blessed with. I pray that everyone here will feel so blessed!

My parish is one of the most blessed parishes that I have ever seen. Thanks be to God. That is probably why I live in the area that I live in. To be close to such an awsome church. There are so many great things that happen at my church:

1. All of our priests are extremely orthodox and have no patience for heresy.
2. All of our priests are loving, patient, and humble men with a zeal for our Lord Jesus Christ.
3. All of our priests love being priests.
4. We have no liturgical abuses at my parish (excluding the fact that people hold hands during the Our Father, but it is really hard to get people to stop sinse that has become so ingrained in New Mexico culture).
5. We have daily mass twice a day on the week days.
6. We have confession before each daily mass, once on Saturday morning, once before Saturday evening mass, once after Saturday evening mass, and once before Life Teen mass on Sunday. What is even better is that there is always a line for confession on the week days and you have to show up early to be able to go. On Satuday afternoon, you usually have to wait in line an hour or more to go to confession even when two priests are hearing confession because so many people show up to recieve the sacrament.
7. We have prepetual adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and people of all ages show up. teenagers, young adults, middle aged persons, senior citizens, and some people bring their kids.
8. We have an extremely orthodox confirmation program run by our youth minister that still utilizes the baltimore catechism.
9. Life Teen is alive and well at my Church and bringing teens to Jesus.
10. Our RCIA program is flourishing.
11. More People at my church tithe than at any other Church in the diocese.
12. We have adult religious education and a young adult group run by one of our deacons.
13. We have the most beautiful tradional easter vigil mass that I have ever seen. It is the high light of the year for me.
14. Our priest preach very often on the sanctity of life, the reality of hell, the necessity of the sacraments, and other Catholic beliefs that are considered unpopular.
15. MY PARISH BODLY PROCLAIMS THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST.

Oh, and i forgot. We a beautiful Corpus Cristi Prosession in which the priest, holding the monstarance, leads the people through the streets of our little sub-burb where we sing the prases of our Lord Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. The protestants probably think that we are crazy as we parade down the street.
