Thinking about impure jokes--sin?

I was talking with a couple of friends recently, and at one point I happened to think of an impure joke that could be made in response to something one of them said. I didn’t try to think of the joke, but once it popped into my head, I allowed it to stay. I wasn’t actually dwelling on any “impure thought” per se (as in a visualized sexual thought), but I wasn’t making any effort to stop thinking about the joke.
Would this be a mortal sin?

Probably not a mortal sin. It takes discipline to pass an opportunity to be funny with an impure joke. The more you struggle against these types of thoughts, the higher your spirituality. Impure jokes really are a sign of spiritual immaturity, and you ought to rise above them.

Sounds like a temptation to scandalize others. You didn’t fall into it, but simply retained the memory. I’m tempted to make a joke in response to you, but… I… must… re…sist…
