Dear OP,
I’ve struggled with some of the same issues, and as others have pointed out, all of us struggle with things that are hard to make sense of, if we really think about them.
I came to the conclusion that I could easily talk myself into atheism, or agnosticism. But then I am making an idol of my mind and reasoning. I could easily take Jesus Christ as my Lord but tear away all of the things about Him, His Church and the Scriptures that I don’t like. Then I’d be making God up in my head, and eventually, again, I’d be worshipping my own mind.
I decided to accept the fact that I’ll never understand the God that my heart tells me is there, but I have to accept the things that I do not understand as truth, and let them help make me a better Christian.
I don’t agree with many of the author’s stances, but this quote pretty much sums it up for me…
“I need a God who is bigger and more nimble and mysterious than what I could understand and contrive. Otherwise it can feel like I am worshipping nothing more than my ability to understand the Divine.”
