I believe my experience allows me to comment. I have been a teacher/coach in public schools for 38 years.
- Some people are not meant to be teachers.
- The grades 9 & 10 are the worst grade levels to teach( it has to do with their growing up)
- If you don’t have anything to say that is authoritative, your lost.
- In my opinion a teacher of Catechism should be up close to thirty, a 22 year old is not mature with experience…I say stop teaching.
5 Any 22 year old would loose the class in a public high school.- Stop teaching.
- Agree
- Agree
- Disagree. RE isn’t a battle between conflicting authorities. One of the prime responsibilities of a catechist is to help the conscience become informed; but conclusions without understanding are meaningless. Kids need to know the why as much as the what.
- Such a generalisation is unfair and unfounded. The Apostle John was a youth when he answered the call to follow the Lord - why would someone’s youth disqualify them? (I’m thinking of “Let no one despise your youth, but set the believers an example in speech and conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.” 1 Tim 4:12).
- I’ve taught in both public and Catholic schools. From my observations, Catholic school students are more immature, undisciplined and unruly. The age of the teacher is not going to drastically alter that, but the ability and gracefulness of the teacher will.
- Do only what the Lord is asking you to.
And remember, always ignore the dinoboomers… (sorry, couldn’t resist)
