Hi y’all,

I am looking into finding a third order or oblates in or close to Greenwood SC. I know there is one a Third Order Poor Clares in Greenville. I have written to them several times and not received an answered. I would like to find one within 2-3 hours drive if possible. I am really interested in the order of the Visitation, but cannot find out if they have a third order.

We have a Trappist Monastery not to far from here but I don’t think they allow women, in their third order (if they have one).

I am about 2 hours from Augusta GA and 3 hours from Charlotte NC. Columbia SC is 1 1/2
hours from me.

I am praying that some one will have the info I need.

:blessyou:

Have you tired contacting a local Secular Franciscan? I am not sure if this is the one you contacted before. I found this site: geocities.com/bssf_sfo/index It has a contact below if you are interested with them.

Or the Secular Order of the Discalced Carmelites? I tired to search the net but I cannot have information. Maybe someone from the USA can help you.

Why not try asking the Mepkin abbey if they allow women in their Oblates? I think they allow. Iread it somewhere over the net if i am not mistaken.

God bless!

Mepkin Abbey is the Trappist Monastery I mentioned. And what are Secular Order of the Discalced Carmelites. How would I go about finding Secular Fransicans?

If you are interested in being a Trappist Abbey, do not hesitate to ask them. They will gladly help you. I think there are female oblates in Mepkin Abbey.

Order of Discalced Carmelites Secular does the following:
  1. To devote a minimum of a half-hour each day to mental prayer or dedication.
  2. To recite Morning and Evening Prayers from the Liturgy of the Hours, and, if possible, Night Prayer before retiring.
  3. To wear the Brown Scapular of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, as a sign of one’s devotion to Mary and membership in her Order.
  4. To attend daily Mass if possible.
  5. Honor Mary by some particular act of devotion. The Rosary is highly recommended.
  6. Members should have an esteem for the Sacrament of Penance and receive the Sacrament frequently.
  7. Members should have an active apostolate.
  8. Members will observe the feasts of the Order and fast on the Vigil of these feasts:
Our Lady of Mt. Carmel-July 16
The Prophet Elijah-July 20
St. Therese of Lisieux-October 1
Our Holy Mother Saint Teresa of Jesus-October 15
All Saints of the Carmelite Order-November 14
Our Holy Father Saint John of the Cross-December 14

Abstinence on these Vigils is not obligatory. The fast follows the usual rules of the Church: one full meal, although two smaller additional meals (whose combined amount is less than the full meal) may be had. The order of the meals is not important. Thus, the full meal may be breakfast, lunch, or dinner, with the optional other two meals in the other locations. Note: if the fast day should fall on a Sunday (which is a solemnity and not appropriate for fasting), no fast is observed.

You may ask your parish about secular Carmelites.

Found this site: karmel.at/eng/res-ocds.htm

I think in this vocation forum, there exists a list of secular orders. i think it is on top of the screen when you click Vocation.

Thomas;

Thank you so much for the links, I have e-mailed a couple of them to find out how close they are to me. I will also e-mail Mebkin Abbey again about their Oblates.

I will pray for your continued graciousness and kindness towards those in search.

John:15 5 I am the vine, you are the branches, He who abides in, and I in him, he is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.

Marilyn-Kay, if the Secular Discalced Carmelites might be of interest to you, there are three OCDS Communities in South Carolina: Columbia, Hilton Head and Summerville. You can find the contact numbers here:

ocdswashprov.org/ProvincialDelegates/Jordan/territory_served.htm

You can find further information about a vocation to the Secular Discalced Carmelites here:

helpfellowship.org/OCDS%20Lessons/Lesson%2015.htm

Thank you so much, I will contact them probably on Monday.
