what are your guys views on a possible “Third Temple” beign built in Israel right now… would most christians support it, or denounce it…

there are talks about a third temple beign build, in Israel if you heard of it… i just wondering what are most catholics and christians views on another temple in jerusalem

I think we couldn’t care less. God has rejected the Jewish sacrificial worship. They were merely shadows of Christ’s sacrifice.

Most Catholics would not care if the Jews rebuilt their Temple (though I think many Muslims would care quite a lot, as the Dome of the Rock is built smack-dab on top of the site of the Holy of Holies). The International Community would care quite a lot because the Holy Land is governed by numerous treaties which prohibit things like building temples, and any action to build or rebuild a Jewish temple would be a violation of these treaties and potentially an act of war. But, theologically, Catholics would not care. The Jewish Church became the Catholic Church with the Covenant of Jesus. Had all Jews simply accepted their own Messiah, there would be no Jewish Church today. The Jewish Church today is simply an echo of an Old Covenant that has absolutely no theological significance today whatsoever. They can build all the temples they want, but it matters not to Catholics (except for that whole “act of war” thing).

Here’s your “third” temple, which St. Paul himself identified in 3 different letters—

2 Cor 6:16

1 Cor 3:16-17

Eph 2:21

—in which Pope Paul VI declared lawlessness as already having entered:

Quote:
Pope Paul VI stunned the world with the words: “We have the impression that through some cracks in the wall the smoke of Satan has entered the temple of God: it is doubt, uncertainty, questioning, dissatisfaction, confrontation… We thought that after the Council a day of sunshine would have dawned for the history of the Church. What dawned, instead, was a day of clouds and storms, of darkness, of searching and uncertainties.” [Pope Paul VI, June 29, 1972, Homily during the Mass for Sts. Peter & Paul, on the occasion of the ninth anniversary of his coronation]

The sacrifice in the Temple is being obscured, ridiculed, and denied by some of her very priests. The man of authority in the Church, the Pope, is holding back the man of lawlessness for now; but as Paul VI said, “the smoke of Satan has entered the temple of God.”

Why would we care about that?

Most Christians do not believe this would happen or, if did, that it would matter, as the Church replaces the “temple”.

However, based on Prophecy, this may be a necessary part of the run-up to the return of our LORD, so if alive, I for one will rejoice and raise my head, as HE said.

Since HE predicted the Temple would be lost and since it was never built again (they tried in AD363, and were prevented from doing so), if it is rebuilt, like the return of the people to Zion in the 1900s, it would be a milestone of prophetic fulfillment.

That’s what I was thinking!

I watched a television special some time ago. They interviewed a group who was collecting donations for the rebuild. They showed a pile of rocks that were supposedly from the original temple and would be used again. Is the new temple project gaining momentum?

I’ve been there; and at least 2 years ago, there were no generally visible signs of a rebuilding project.

I don’t know how rocks, of all things, could be traced to the second temple. Rocks are, by nature, stable for millions of years unchanged. And Israel is a particularly rocky land. Heaps of rock are everywhere.

I’d say as long as the “international peace process” remains hung up, nothing will be done toward actual physical rebuilding. The major nations, to say nothing of the Palestinians (who claim the site the temple would stand on) would exert intolerable pressure. GOD Himself would need to open the way, as HE did for the return to the land between 1897 and 1948.

But once HE does, it could be raised in months. There is quarried stone all over Israel that could be used. I’ve no doubt modern plans are afoot to use modern techniques for a “speed build.” I’ve seen buildings put up in days that were comparable in size to the Biblical temple.

Don’t hold your breath; but if you hear it happening, be ready to raise your head!

All I know is that I first heard about this about 30 years ago, and every once in a while hear about it again, but–nobody seems to have gotten around to building the temple. I also wonder how many modern Jewish people are really that interested in rebuilding the temple and sacrificing animals. It seems to me that more Christians of certain sects are more interested in this than the Jewish people are. Whenever I read or hear about this, it is from Christian, not Jewish, sources.

Because then, as now, they physically couldn’t.

The site where it would stand is now dominated by a Muslim sanctuary (the Dome of the Rock, which dominates the Jerusalem skyline) and is under Muslim control. Since the whole area is so precarious politically, neither the Muslims, nor the Israelis, would allow any physical preparations for construction to begin.

That could change if a stable peace were made. Counter to what many believe, the Dome need not be destroyed for the Temple to rise again; the two could stand side by side.

To an extent, that is true, but may still represent a “bowing” on the Jewish side to physical inevitability. There’s no point in yearning for what physically can’t be.

Conversely, I’ve heard a Jewish rabbi state that, since AD70, they have had “no way to be purified from sin.” As long as that faith survives, one day, the temple will rise again.

Oh it must be true if it was on tv!!!

the third temple already exists, it is the Catholic Church wherein the final definitive one and only sacrifice of Christ is continually made present on Earth.

What some branch of Judaism does or does not do, or what there are permitted (or not) to do by Muslims in the Holy Land, does not change that fact.
