A few weeks ago, my family and I went to Mass at a parish near my in-laws being we were visiting them. The parish is made up of 95% of vacationers and many of them are apparently from parishes that hold hands during the Our Father (my family doesn’t, no we aren’t rude but it isn’t called for in the rubrics of the Mass).
We also kneel after the Agnus Dei (Lamb of God) at my parish, to the end of communion, this parish stands. I don’t mind of people stand, but I choose to kneel. Unkown to me at this time was that this bothered a few people behind us, however that it bothered them doesn’t matter, I didn’t nor don’t care.
After the final blessing one of my children didn’t bow her head as the Priest ask so I gently (and yes I mean gently) touched her head to remind her that she should bow her head as the Priest asked. As I did this I heard them saying…did you see what he just did to her? (as though I was harming or physically abusing her at Mass). It was at that time I put two and two together of all that we did which apparently bothered her. As we were leaving Mass I genuflected at the end of the pew, got up and looked right at this elderly woman who just looked at me and shook her head back and forth. Let me tell you, that I was angry in my heart, but my lips were closed and since she said nothing, I said nothing. But I must admit that I was guilty of the sin of anger in my heart at her and the other gossipers for butting into my personal family business.
Have you ever experienced anything like this?
