This expression drives me nuts!

I hate hearing people throw off the expression “FML” (short for “**** my life”). It drives me crazy to the point of approaching the individual and pointing out that life is a precious gift and one should never speak of it so flippantly. Society has become so vulgar that people don’t even flinch when such things are thrown around

The difficulty is the limitations of our words.

“Life” in the sense of our human-body aliveness is indeed a beautiful gift, and few indeed are those who would curse it.

But that is normally not what people mean by “life,” but rather the tangle of situational and interpersonal geometry that can often be a painful mess.

Just IMNAAHO.

I’ve never heard it but I suspect it really means “I hate my job, living at home, situation in general” – not being alive.

The saying I hate is YOLO – “You only live once”, usually an excuse for irresponsible behavior.
 
I feel exactly the same and I really can’t stand hearing the 4 letter word.
In the UK, it seems to be getting more common hearing it with …ing on the end, in a passing conversation and I dislike that more than anything. . I just handle this by saying in my head lord have mercy… and then either a hail Mary or a small prayer for the person.

My 22 year old stepson says it every other word (it seems)…he lives in another state, & I have to insist DH take him off speakerphone due to the assault on my ears. 😊

But yes, I believe “FML” is only commentary on the speaker’s worldly woes.

It drives me nuts, too the way people feel they have to use “basically” all the time when they don’t need to use “basically.” Someone who just went to the grocery will say, “Basically, we just went to the grocery.” “Basically, we decided to buy a house.” “Basically, I got an A on my paper.” They sound basically uneducated.
 
I have never, in fact, heard the three-word expression referred to. Maybe it’s regional?

Cuss-words do not bother me, but I’d pray for someone who felt the need to use them all the time. There is probably a level of stress there that (s)he has interiorized.

So, basically, they have crazy bad vocabulary. 😃
 
Im more sad at the fact that people would hate their own lives to be honest

Actually, come to think of it, whenever I’ve seen it expanded, it’s been “luck”, not “life.”

They are just words… don’t let them bother you or give them any power.
