I have been a member here for less than a week and I feel very unwelcome. Maybe it is because I am not as good at being defensive with what I believe. So far it has caused me nothing but stress.

I felt that way too at first. Start of with some “softer” threads. I jumped right into politics
But do be prepared to defend yourself as we tend to debate a lot of things, sometimes too much. But every once in awhile you learn something too.
There are some good people on here that are very kind. I hope you stick around and have some fun too.

You are more than welcome here. Do not worry about how well you can defend your faith. In fact, it may be best to play in some less agressive areas, first.

There are different forums here, and since you are new, I would suggest that you try different ones such as Spirituality, Family, etc … those are less stress.
Debating can be stressful for different reasons but it can be very healthy if we know how to discuss.

This is an apologetics forum–so by definition it is about defending what one believes.
That being said, the arguments should be directed at the merits of the position rather than personal attacks–charity and the Beatitudes should be remembered first!

It is easy to understand your frustration. I can relate. My solution is to utilize the “ignore” option. If I think somebody is a troll or troublemaker of some kind I just add them to my ignore list.
You’ll be amazed how much that in itself will reduce the stress.
Funny thing though, I belong to several forums and my Church forum is the only place where I use that option.

Welcome…I agree with others…If there’s something out there that bothers me or if I am not being understood by others, I jump into other threads that aren’t so demanding.
Another option, jump into the Prayer Intentions Forum and offer to pray for others. Always surrounded by great people there and you can do a lot of good…

Welcome and rejoice that you able to suffer for Christ. Jesus did not promise you heath and wealth. Jesus said you will face tribulation in this world. Suffering is how we are made more like Christ.

Analyze why you aren’t able to defend what you believe. Is it because you aren’t gifted with the gift of gab?* Or, is it because you haven’t done enough research on the topic to be able to defend it?
*Some people are very good at spouting off, but if you look closely they didn’t say anything that was relevant to the subject. Don’t worry about them any further.
Forums can be a good place to sit back and learn (be a lurker, not a poster, unless it is to ask questions–ask why did you ask the question? Is it to really learn or were you trying to put someone on the spot?).

If you find yourself getting upset by what people are posting in the more serious threads, take a break. You can also join in with some of the game and story threads, where you can just have fun without having to defend anything.

Don’t be defensive. No one WANTS you to be defensive.
But, as someone much wiser than I said up there somewhere, just tell us what you believe and think about why you do actually believe it when someone asks you a question about that belief.
If more people were more interested in stating what THEY believe and giving their reasons for believing those beliefs, and less interested in CONVINCING others that no one should have any beliefs other than THEIRS, we’d have a much more civil “playground” in which to play, now wouldn’t we?

Unless something changed recently, I think it is only against the rules to invite others to “swarm” one of those sites or to use them to attack the Church. Mentioning them is a good thing since forewarned is forearmed.
