It appears to be an Intelligence Squared debate.

Intelligence Squared is a widely respected debating society, bringing together luminaries to challenge and respond to one another before a live audience. At the end, the audience votes on the winner.
Intelligence Squared:
A show of hands at the beginning of the debate revealed around half of the audience in favour of the motion. At the end of the debate, this proportion had grown to around 4/5 of the audience.
I didn’t take the time to listen to the debate (they are rather long) but it doesn’t appear to have gone well for the Catholic side. Still, I am not sure it matters since this non-governmental debate (held in June) will not affect the Pope’s visit.

I was wondering about that myself.
Do they have the ability/authority to even stop the Pope from coming to the UK, or anywhere else, for that matter?

I am really not terribly well versed on this debate, really. This is where I get confused. Granted, I think the RC church dropped the ball in some respects when it comes to abuse of children by priests, but where does the Pope fit in the mix? Was he aware and did nothing? Or is it generally the office they are after and not the man himself?
