Lately in my Catholic community I am getting lost of pressure to become some form of celibate. Right down to prayers that I become one.

When I first meet people they are big on talking me into the the priesthood, then they learn I am 26 an haven’t finished college. At which point it’s become a monk or hermit…

I’m just sick of it. When I try to tell people I feel called to the married life and to teach, they start discussing being a Brother working in an orphanage or as brother that is a teacher…

I’ve even had people going “Hello Bro… oh Rusty hi…” on two occasions.

I am sick and tired of it, how do I get these people to back off and stop trying to push me into a life that:

A) I am convinced God doesn’t want me in.

and

B) I don’t want.

I know vocations are slipping and honestly I am wondering if this move to hard sell them is part of it. URGH!

I am sorry everyone I’m just so frustrated… 😦

It’s to the point I have wondered about jumping to Orthodox (well there are MANY issues on that regard than this it’s just the one most frustrating me right now).

Brother don’t be too hard on yourself, remember that God never gives us more than we can take, so live your life. Change the subject in front of them. Tell them you have things to do, say thanks then leave them say see you latter, know what I mean?

Go for it you will be what God wabts as long as you allow God to be the center of your life.

God bless.

Hmm, i guess sometimes the people around us see in us vocations that we wouldn’t think of ourselves. 😃

Here’s whom you should ask for an answer and guidance!

The Omnipotent Infant Child Jesus!

Novena Prayer to the Miraculous Infant of Prague
Dearest Jesus, Little Infant of Prague, how tenderly You love us! Your greatest joy is to dwell among us and to bestow Your blessing upon us. Though I am not worthy that You should help me, I feel drawn to You by love because You are kind and merciful.

So many who turned to You with confidence have received graces and had their petitions granted. Behold me as I come before You to lay open my heart to You with its prayers and hopes. I present to You especially this request, which I enclose in Your loving Heart: (Mention your request).

Rule over me, dear Infant Jesus, and do with me and mine according to Your Holy Will, for I know that in Your Divine Wisdom and Love You will arrange everything for the best. Do not withdraw Your hand from me, but protect and bless me forever.

I pray You, all-powerful and gracious Infant Jesus, for the sake of Your Sacred Infancy, in the Name of Your Blessed Mother Mary who cared for You with such tenderness, and by the greatest reverence with which Saint Joseph carried You in his arms, help me in my needs. Make me truly happy with You, dearest Infant, in time and in eternity, and I shall thank You forever with all my heart. Amen.

Please spread devotion!😃 👍

pressure from other people is certainly no sign you have a vocationto celibacy. I am curious what kind of community which calls itself Christian would impose such pressure. Do you mean real pressure, or do you just mean well meaning suggestions from people who assume that because you are not living with a girl you must have a vocation?

If you yourself have considered a vocation to priesthood or religious life, the persons to talk to is your confessor, spiritual director, vocations director of your diocese, or of the religious order that interests you.

as for being worthy, no one on the planet is worthy of that honor. God does not call the worthy, the prepared, and the holy, but whom He calls he makes worthy, prepared and holy.

It could be.

There have been cultures where one got ‘pushed’ into the religious life (at one time the Irish were guilty of this - especially when there was one ‘only good for the books’ in the family), and even in the US my mother experienced the ‘hard sell’ by some nuns at her school.

When they try this again terminate the conversation ask them to pray that you always follow God’s will in your life and walk away.

cyberwolf,
don’t get down because of this. What I think you’re seeing is people, who are expressing fear that they will not have a priest, to celebrate Mass, in the near future.
As a result, they pressure single males to think about the priesthood.

Of course, you have already expressed that you are not being called to the priesthood, but toward married life and it is probably God drawing you in this direction.

So, don’t let the pressure people are giving you, get to you. Just see this as their poverty and fear. Forgive them.

Jim

Thanks everyone. ^.^

I think God is wanting me to become a Secular Franciscan the more I think about it…

Will see 🤷
