I am a little curious. Does the song go something like, “This is Jesus, Emmanuel…” or something to that effect. What are the lyrics?

The reason I am asking these questions is that I think I have heard that song before and it was a little troubling. Somehow I don’t think it’s suitable for use in the Mass.

Not sure where you got the license but if you’re a CCLI member you should be able to get song sheets from them - Cowan’s website mentions both them and ILP, but ILP’s website is mostly still under construction.

I’m not a CCLI member so can’t verify that the song is available . . .

I Think the lyrics go like this:

Refain:
This is Jesus, Emmanuel. God is with us, in this sacrament, come recieve him, adore him, This is Jesus, our Lord.
  1. Bright Star of David, radiance of God, now become the Living Bread, the Body of our Lord. Come in adoration; recieve with trembling hands the sacrament most Holy, the banquet of the Lamb.
  2. Drink of living water flowing flowing from the Lord. taste the cup of blessing, partake of precious blood. River of salvation, Holy cleansing tide, fountian of Redemption flowing from the Savior’s side.
  3. Priest of highest honor, King and sovereign Lord. Unblemished Lamb of sacrifice, Your very life outpoured. Royal Paschal victim, True begotten Son, offered as our ransom by the Holy One.

Thank you for clarifying that one. It was probably another version that I heard. This one seems fine. I would love to hear it with the organ, though.

Thank You everyone for your help.

I do have a CCLI licenses but it only gave me the lyrics and not the sheet music or chords for the song.

So I ended up just doing it off memory and, praise God, it sounded amazing. So, if anyone needs the chords to this song along with the lyrics, I would be more than happy to email them to you.
God bless!

Pax, Jonathan

Would this be considered a non-secular song? At what point during the mass are you planning to use this? 🙂

I have a book of sheet music with chords for a lot of his music, which I got from the Franciscan University bookstore at a conference, worth a call there.

Thank you all for your help!

This song is perfect for Communion.
“God is with us, in this Sacrament. Come receive Him, adore Him. This is Jesus, Our Lord… Receive with trembling hands…” are just some of the words in this song.

So thank you all once again for all your help!

Pax, Jonathan

Yes, the song sheets are available through the CCLI. It is CCLI #2185286. Best of luck.

yeap that’s the reason!

I know this is an old thread, but my parish used this today for communion. I was googling it because i like it, and this thread came up! I think it’s a really nice song for communion. It sounds good with the organ too. It adds more solemnity i think.

I really like this song too, even though I am a huge organ, traditional hymn girl myself. 😛 I think it stems from the fact that the parish I grew up with doesn’t have an organ and all the music was done with volunteer musicians with guitars, piano, drums etc. But they always took care to make the communion song something that focused on the Eucharist and was appropriate in mood (no fast drum banging songs). So this song and one other by Cowan came up sometimes.
The Cup Of Life Outpoured
Words and music by Jim Cowan
Who am I, that I should receive
The cup of life outpoured?
The bread of life, the blood of Christ
The body of my Lord
Lord, I believe! Help my unbelief
Cause me to see You as You are
The King of glory, the Lord of love
The Shepherd of my heart
Lamb of God, Holy God
I come to receive You now
Come into my heart, fill my life
With Your very presence, Lord
To great for me
This wisdom of the Lord
To hold the Savior in my hand
And greater still, the gift of God
That I should be one with Him

Is Cowan Catholic? For me these too songs just have wonderful Catholic symbols and pharseology. I had this one be the communion hymn at my wedding. (No organ 😦 or I think I would have picked “Let all mortal flesh keep silence”:D)

Jim Cowan is Catholic and has been known to lead music at some of the youth conferences. Namely, he was the Director of Music for Conferences at Franciscan University of Steubenville until 2004. He also sang at one of JPII’s private Masses once.
