this is nothing compared to others… but i just thought that i would have just a little bit more peace of mind if i knew others would pray for me too…

you see all of my life i have been overweight… now its just getting too much even when i work out countless days a week and watch what i eat…

its not just in vanity… but the way i think about it i can avoid many other sins if i just lose the weight… getting angry at myself and others, or envying what others have, etc etc…

like i said, this is nothing compared to what others suffer… and they are in my prayers… i just hope i am your prayers too…

if any of you have suggestions, not of the dieting kind, but of prayers and such, that would greatly be appreciated…

thank you all…

I pray that you overcome this worry, and not be bothered by it. Be at peace with yourself, and how you are. I pray that God will give you that grace of peace for you.

Grace:

I only have 4 ideas for you to try…
  1. Get yourself a Body Fat Test - For a Woman, any Body Fat Percentage between 17%-24% is considered Normal. The version where you’re dunked in some water is the most accurat, but the calipers will do. Although this is the first, this is NOT a spiritual answer. But, I think this will help give you some idea of where you really stand weightwise - I don’t think it’s going to be as bad as you think.
  2. I really think you probably have a Spiritual, not a Physical, Problem. I get that from the fact that you said, “I can avoid many other sins if I just lose the weight…” That’s a way of saying “… if I just lose the weight.” God intends for us to have the indweling, fruits and gifts of the Holy Spirit no matter whether we’re handsome, skinny, intelligent, great typists, computer saavy, ugly, fat dumb, terrible typists, computer illiterate or normal like most people, And, That means God means for us to avoid those sins that bind us and make our lives so miserable NOW, not when our weight is idea,
  3. I didn’t see anything about your prayer life or what prayers you’re saying. I’d like to see a post from you where you briefly describe how often you go to Mass, and how much time you’re spending adoring our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament, along with the Rosary, the Breviary and other prayers you might want to do. I’d also like to hear if you’re feeding yourself on His Word (we have a Traditional Practice called “Lecctio Divina” where you read aloud with someone else for 20-30 minutes/day). That can also be done in front of our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament.
This is a lot, Except for the Mass and Reading of the Scripture, you can pretty much pick and choose as long as you’re spending time in front of our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament.
  1. And, We all know where some of this time is going to come from - You might want to try to find a way to make you workouts a little more efficient (a workout partner, personal trainer, instructor, etc.) so you can do more in less time (and maybe fewer visits to the gym).
I hope this helps.

Your Brother in Christ, Michael

Dear Grace283…No matter the problem there will always be those with greater problems and those with lessor. If something is worrying or concerning us then it is a problem that we need deal with - I too struggle with weight and know how debilitating a problem it can be. I will keep you in daily prayer and thank you very much for keeping us all in yours too…I hope and will pray you will have great success in loosing weight…God bless you and yours…Barb

This is one of the more intense prayer request if you ask me. Weight loss / gain can be so devastating for some people. Don’t down play your prayer request… God doesn’t.

My sister has battled her weight all of her life… She was heavy even as a little child… by the age of 44 she was diabetic.

Once on a diabetic diet she actually eats more food yet she is losing weight… but now at a standstill and has been for about 1 year.

I have no idea of specific prayers for weight loss, however, maybe there are some prayers for “envy, jealousy, etc”. God did not mean for all people to be thin.

Follow only diets given to you by a doctor. Never take over the counter diet aids. And most importantly…BE PROUD OF WHO YOU ARE.

Next time you look at really thin person, think about this… My other sister can’t gain weight! She eats more food than two regular adult women and weighs about 115. She is 5’9". It is just as hard for those people to gain!!

God Bless you in your daily trials and sufferings… God loves you for who you are…

Father, please wrap Your loving arms around Your good and faithful servant Grace and bring her into the warmth of Your Holy light. Please help her in her struggle to lose weight and let her feel happy this day. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Grace,

My prayers are with you. Usually, if someone says, “This isn’t that important” it means it’s very important to them. And your health is very important, because without it, it’s difficult to enjoy much of anything.

I too have struggled with weight all my life, but 4 months ago I started a new nutritional program that helped me lose a great deal of weight in a very short time (I lost 25lbs in less than one month and have been able to keep it off…without feeling starved). If you are interested send me a private msg or email.

God’s peace be with you always.

You could have a biological reason for not being able to lose the weight. Have you seen a doctor about this? Your thyroid could be hypoactive, or there could be some other endocrine problem. There are some hormonal imbalances that cause people to gain weight even if they’re eating almost nothing. Good news is that many of these diseases can be treated. I will pray for you to be healthy. :signofcross:

I will pray for you, your request for prayers are just as important as anyone else’s are, include with your praying time to just talk to,JESUS,I have found this so helpful.:signofcross:

Glory be to him whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine; glory be to him from generation to generation in the Church and in Christ Jesus for ever and ever. Amen. – Ephesians 3:20 - 21

Praying for you! 🙂

Grace, I too struggle with my weight and don’t eat to much. By not eating as much, I am actually slowing my metabolism and not losing as I should. I am in my 40’s so it is getting harder and I have many physical problems preventing me from doing many exercises. I am limited to swimming and walking. I can’t walk to fast though or I will end up limping. It is a not win situation.

I will pray for you and please pray that I can be motivated enough to lose weight myself. I need to go back to weight watchers, but it was not enough food for me.

I will remember you in my rosary tonight. Being overwieght can be difficult, and is quite an obstacle to overcome…

I ask for the intercession of the Blessed Virgin, and pray for the grace necessary in overcomeing this health issue.

God Bless,
Dean

Grace:

I hope you can see the outpouring of love from your brothers & sisters. Please know that is only a fraction of the love that God the Father has for you, and He loves you, because He made you and bought you at the price of His only begotten Son. Because you are precious to God and bought at a price, and because you are part of the Body of Christ, anything that concerns you concerns Him and affects us, and nothing is
trivial. so, Please don’t think of your concerns as trivial.

I think I’m in the same boat, more or less, as Nana is (although Nana can’t be in as much trouble as I am). I’m what they call “morbidly obese”. Although I’ve lost 30 lbs., I need to lose another 80 in order to become a good surgical risk for Lumbar Spinal Fusion (+ another 20 beyond that to be at my ideal weight). Because of my lower spine, I also can’t do most of the exercises I did even 10 years ago. so, I have to lose weight by dieting - reducing my caloric intake. As Nana might say, it’s not easy, and it’s really slow.

If you can keep Jesus at the center of your life, and try to help others when the opportunities arise, I can just about promise you that you’ll find it not as hard to obsess about your weight or to keep from getting angry with yourself or to envy others.

Try to be a little more gentle and patient with yourself. One of the Desert Fathers said, “The beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord and humility with patience.”

I hope this helps.

Your Brother in Christ, Michael

Greetings!!!

Well, I go to mass every Sunday and holy days of obligation, of course 🙂 . I adore the Blessed Sacrament at least once a week for at least 30 minutes as my schedule allows. I do say Breviary at least once a day. I pray the Divine Mercy and the Rosary either on or from work. I do this all under the direction of my Spiritual Director, but I probably should do more.

As for exercise, I go dancing 2-3 times a week. I go to the gym. I walk, etc etc.

Thank you for your concern!

I hope this info helps you out!

To all of you who have replied as of yet. I thank you greatly for your concern, my dear Brothers and Sisters.

I have read every one of your comments and feel instantly better. I wrote the prayer requests at one of my “dark moments” that everyone has once in a while, right? I just thank the Lord, for good people like all of you who stopped and said a word or two.

Thank you mucho!!

Loving you all in my heart!!

as a fellow weight watcher (I watch to up a bit, down a bit, or stay the same, no matter what I eat or how much I exercise) all I can offer is to focus on the spirituality of how you regard yourself as a child of God, deserving the best in the quality of food, in the optimal amount for health and nutrition, and a having a body created by God for health, and treating his gift accordingly.

That’s soooo true. And count me in as one of those people who would love to gain weight but can’t. I increased to 2800 calories (which is REALLY hard for me to do) and I’ve still only gained 3 pounds after a few months. I’d love to break 110 and actually have a possibility of liking the way I look, because right now I look horrible. There’s nothing wonderful about being my weight at all.

Grace, have you tried running at all? I know a lot of people who run everyday and none of them are overweight at all. It’s a great way to work out and be active. Definitely it’s not good to just start running long distances right away, but maybe instead of walking try running a little bit. I’ve seen a lot of people lose a lot of weight from doing it.

Oh yes, and of course I’ll pray for you!!! 🙂

Note from Moderator:

While I understand the good intentions, I want to remind the posters here that this is the Prayer Intentions board. Advice for losing weight belongs on other boards. Grace asked for prayers. Please stay on topic.

Thank you.
