This is terrifying - Could this be the end of the Church in America?

Do you have any idea how many souls have been lead away from the Truth by going with the flow of “what we always got”? I don’t - but going by the recent election, and the polls I’m seeing on what “Catholics” believe about abortion, I’d say the number has to be staggering.

I’m totally floored that no one else seems to be very concerned about this. Sure - the gates of hell will not prevail, and I know this and believe it. But we have a RESPONSIBILITY to fight the good fight, to DEFEND the Faith, and not just sit idly by allowing this sort of snatching of souls to occur.

Isn’t anyone else the least bit concerned about this? Or is it just another news article to say 🤷 oh well about?

It’s our responsibility every single day. We are to pray for the world and it’s salvation daily, I trust in Jesus.

i didn’t see the entire video i don’t think. when i clicked the link, the commentator had just begun speaking about 696 days left until Pentecost and then it went to another video.
so i wasn’t exactly sure what it was about until i read the page from the american catholic council (?is that their name) and i began to understand.
the movement within the episcopal church began slowly and then really took off. in that case, people were not happy with the liberal ways of the episcopal church and wanted to return more to a traditional anglican faith. so they began their own anglican churches.
this is the reverse scenario. these are liberals who are wanting to depart from tradition to
“their way of interpreting the Catholic faith”. so they do see it as a reform, but if they are not recognized by the Pope, they will be like protestants.
Isn’t this what every protestant church is, anyway. One that used to be Catholic but then decided it knew better and so broke off to make its own church, and now 30,000+ churches later they are still splintering?

A new church? Great! And when we start, we’ll call ourselves ANGLICANS!!

Maybe these people need to take a trip to England and take a tour of all the empty Anglican churches. Or others now turned into nightclubs.
Sad? Yes. Terrifying or even surprising? Not really.
anglicans or better yet, episcopalians.

originally, that is how the protestant churches began. their leaders were once Catholic,
but then they wanted reform - like martin luther. or for whatever reason, they had disagreements with the teaching of the Catholic church. however, the newer protestant churches that have originated within the last 25 years i think are very far removed from the Catholic church - like the megachurches and the televangelists, etc.

There is potentially great harm in this group but what is more disconcerting to me is the fact that these people are already in control in every diocese and in every parish. They’re on pastoral councils, on the catechesis teams, on the liturgy committees. They’re already active everywhere and I’m sure a lot of them will hop on board this so-called American Council but what scares me even more are those who will not. The ones who don’t come out into the open will remain secretly in their posts, quietly poisoning the minds of our little one’s, who’s unhappy parents blindly and foolishly subject their children to these rotten scoundrels.

you make a very valid point! and you are right to believe that there will be those that will stay behind to further try to water down the faith.

And if you don’t mind, I will continue your train of thought a bit…

…and the children will eventually drift away from the Faith because they were never really taught it in the first place.

This is the sadness of not doing anything or speaking out.

Honestly? From one of those evil liberal Catholics?

When you (not you, personally, Liza, but “you” in general and I’ve seen this on these forums) go around talking about how “those liberal Catholics do the church a disservice,” or “those liberal Catholics should just leave” (well hey, here looks like an opportunity!) or “those liberal Catholics are ignorant/dumb/etc.” or ask them “how can they call themselves Catholic?” yet turn around and say, “Once Catholic always Catholic.” That shuts a lot of people out.

You talk about how Catholics have a responsibility to prevent these “snatching of souls.” Part of that responsibility is INCLUDING them rather than trying to shove them out.

I didn’t see any Catholic do that for me, personally. (Maybe that’s a problem.) I know I get turned off by the “real” Catholics here, or those who continue to have a self righteous attitude and how they’re “real” Catholics. I was apalled at one thread on here where some people felt that “those liberal Catholics” “should just leave.” One of the things that I really disliked about Catholics (and I admit I can get this attitude on occasion but I’m working on it) is this arrogance that Catholics have, even within our own ranks. And then there’s cut down and put down when people find out how “those liberal Catholics” (and that’s usually used as PUT DOWN and if it were said would probably be said snearingly) then they’re told they’re not “real” Catholics.

The only thing that brought me back was the Holy Eucharist. That was the only thing. Not the conservative voting block of the Catholic person. Not one of “those liberal Catholics” either. The Holy Eucharist. Sure, we can help each other, teach, educate, help someone come back to the Church. And it certainly won’t be any of them that kick me out. Even though I am one of “those liberal Catholics” who “do the Church a disservice.”

At some point, while we, as Catholics, are responsible for our own spiritual growth (and as you well know, Americans - regardless of faith - are sorely lacking in personal responsiblity) there is also the responsibility of the Church to educate as well. Right now, the only thing lacking is in the homilies - maybe. I haven’t been back long enough to be able to tell.

Even when I wasn’t practicing Catholicism and I was “out there,” I had always believed that the Catholic Church was the One True Church. Which is why I never joined any other Protestant faith. I remember seeing a bumper sticker, I don’t remember the exact wording, it said something like I love you Jesus, it’s your followers I can’t stand. And I think that hit the nail on the head for me.

The “real” Catholics profess to be sinners and trying to humble themselves before God and Christ yet, when you listen to their language, hear what they say, they’re being quite judgemental of other Catholics who don’t think exactly like them. While I can understand that it is a love for Christ and a desire to be obedient to the Church, well… you just can’t, and won’t, make people “go your way” when you keep alienating like that.

I’ll give you an example. Earlier someone posted that this “reminds them” of those Catholics who “only” go at Easter and Christmas and they are “lukewarm” in their faith if they “had any at all.” If they didn’t, uhm, they wouldn’t go, period. I think I remember learning that we only have to go to confession at least once a year. Well, do you really think that someone who only participates those times of year is going to want to listen to someone making judgements about them like that? No. Quite frankly, just because someone goes to Mass every Sunday, confesses every 4 to 6 weeks, does this or that, doesn’t make them any better of a Catholic that the one who attends Mass once or twice a year. It just means they’re are doing more in their faith than the other.

I know this isn’t all Catholics, but the many of the Catholics with an attitude like this do turn off other Catholics. Which most likely keeps them quiet.

Another thing I am afraid of is that many are simply easily led away and are very trusting. Also, people are, quite simply, willful.

You know, as I write this I’m thinking “Why DON’T Catholics do MORE on their own of what it takes to learn about the faith?” I don’t know. I really don’t know the answer to that. I think that so many Catholics, because we grow up knowing that the Catholic church is THE church and that they’re already Catholic simply take it for granted. It’s unfortunate to be sure. It’s spiritual laziness.

But in all honesty, I think what’s going to happen is people will get turned off by something, whatever that something is, and then act willfully. Until they Get It about the Holy Eucharist, which I know is the draw for a good number of those who come back and converts as well, they’ll go just about anywhere else where they feel included rather than marginalized. That’s where we can start being responsible in keeping the flock in.

Just my :twocents: that I was able to scrape together due to the stimulus package. 😉

With all due respect, I don’t think this is enough. How does that old saying go - “If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got.” And if the history of organizations like NARAL and Call to Action are any examples, just staying the course has not been effective in the least.

Sitting by and letting this happen around us is not how we defend the Faith. My question still stands - what do WE do to make sure this organization doesn’t take root (any more than it has already).

I think it begins in every single parish in this country, with every single priest and his homily and bulletins. If the TRUTH is not being taught, then how is any Joe Catholic in the pew supposed to know about it? And those of us who KNOW this is not happening in our own parishes have a responsibility to make sure it DOES happen. Talking to our priests, notifying our bishops, and taking it higher if needed.

~Liza
has EWTN mentioned anything about this or everyone is just staying quiet for fear of being criticizing others?

what can we do about it? how many groups have separated themselves from the CC? for so many years the Church has had no voice, accepting everything from everybody. people got used to it. so they think they can do whatever they want. it is interesting to see what the Church is going to do about this. i will wait.

so, what do you suggest it should be done to prevent this group from misleading others into error?
if the CC is the guardian of the True faith of Christ, what do you think she should do?

Honestly? I don’t know. I wish I had an answer. And I HAVE been thinking about this. I think maybe this is a call for me to actually get involved with my Church. Also, like I said, I’ve only recently come back so I admit to ignorance in what the Church is doing. I do know that She is doing far more than back in the early 90’s when I had decided I had had enough.

Secondly, please recognize I did say that it was spiritual laziness, and even physical and mental laziness as well, on the part of the Catholic who does nothing to enlarge their faith. I am all about personal responsiblity.

But theone big thing is not so much on the Catholic Church herself, but the people within it. I used the word “marginalized” by those who profess to be the “real” Catholics against "those liberal Catholics." I think this is something that people have to work on themselves. One of the things I’ve gotten from several people is if I’m not all about, and only about, their particular issue, then I’m not a “real” Catholic. Huh?

It’s attitudes like that that should be address and I think it is to a certain extent. I’m not saying compromise the Truth. It can’t be compromised. And also, recognize the fact that some people are simply not going to think like they do. Which to many folks is something that is not understandable.

I really do wish I had an answer. But I guess the answer is to quit marginalizing all those Catholics who aren’t “as good as” they are.

Oh, and I just thought of this. How about an emphasis on the Holy Eucharist and what it is? And RESPECT for it? My church has a lot going on. I read its bulletins. But I don’t think many parishes are doing this just from the small amount of reading that I’ve been doing on this forum.

What’s the big deal? The “American Catholic Council” sounds like just another Protestant or pagan group to me.

The hyperbole on that Catholic video clip was ridiculous.

To your fist comment:

To a lot of Catholics it is just a protestant or pagan group… but to many the name itself will deceive them as it implies a sense of authority. The USCCB already had a name change in the not so distant past and how many elderly or misinformed, but well meaning, Catholic will pick up some American Catholic Council propaganda and think it’s the USCCB or is authoritative?

i understand your dillema but the real problem is liberal Catholics just in mind is ok but when they get together to disrupt and fight against the teachings of the Church, they need not to be called Catholics for the sake of others. i command you for coming back. bless you.

we must follow the steps of Jesus, speak the Truth always without being afraid of persecution. the time has come for the persecution of the Church. just look at the new document from the holy father. many will take it and run with it just like they do with the book of Revelation.

wake up Catholics the Church is speaking, the world will shake from its foundation. watch and rejoice in the Lord.

St Augustine says: “the Church is quiet but when she speaks, she shuts the mouth of the heretics.” Amen to that.

See, I don’t agree with that. So we’re at an impasse.

And thank you. I’m glad to be back.

Hmmm, honestly I am not that worried. I have faith that Our Lord will not let something drastic happen to the Church in America…and even if it happens, I know without a doubt where Church will be: where St. Peter is.

Now is the time remember that the Patriarchal See of Rome is the touchstone for Holy Orthodoxy.

When everything else fails, we can count on Our Lord Jesus to preserve His Holy Catholic Church, especially through His Vicar on Earth, the Roman Pontiff.

Long live Pope Benedict XVI, Patriarch of Old Rome and successor of St. Peter!

“We exhort you in every respect, honorable brother, to heed obediently what has been written by the most blessed pope of the city of Rome, for blessed Peter, who lives and presides in his own see, provides the truth of faith to those who seek it.”

-St. Peter Chrysologus

The state of the Church is improving from the ground up. Most young priests I know are rock solid in the faith, and the younger bishops are as well. The Catholics this group wants to stand for are a dying breed.
