The heresy of Islam is something we all must contend with because it was not repressed and continues to exist. Every heresy has some good and wonderful things in it. In its most sublime expressions Islam represents wonderful art and poetry, science and humanitarianism. When the Jihad is limited to discussions and attempts to convert along peaceful lines there is nothing to condemn except its basic premises about God and Jesus.
Yet, Islam has done virtually nothing to suppress and in many many areas has actually encouraged violence and savagery. I do not understand why so many Muslims put up with the violence of not only its recent past of its entire history. I don’t know why a peaceful Sufi in Bosnia would claim the same religion as Wahab or bin Ladin or of Hamas or Hezbollah or of the PLO.
I’m assuming, I’m hoping, that the Muslim who post here are open and honest and transparent about their motives. But who can really know on an anonymous board? But most Americans are very trusting even since 911. We have developed the capacity to welcome all kinds of peoples and embrace them. We assume that others whom we embrace will return our openness. We know that isn’t always the case. But for the most part we will trust you until you prove to be untrustworthy.
As I’ve written before, if Islam wants to be fully trusted Muslims will have to continue to distance themselves from and/or reign in your lunatic groups which I’m afraid are quite numerous. I don’t see how you can claim that Islam is primarily a religion of peace until you do.
