Last week I went to confession with mortal sins to confess. About an hour beforehand, I remembered a certain sin, and jotted it down where I would see it and remember to add it to my list. When I did see it, I couldn’t actually remember committing that sin, although I’m sure I must have because otherwise I wouldn’t have thought of it at all in the first place. I thought, “Well, I’ll just try to remember to mention it in confession,” but I didn’t add it to my list, even though I knew I would very likely forget. And sure enough, I forgot.
Was this a bad confession? I feel like it was, but I’m hesitant to say for sure.

Hi,

You are only required to confess the sins you actually remember. If you couldn’t remember if you really committed the sin, then forget it. Your Confession sounds quite valid. Should you remember any sins that you forgot to confess, you can be sure that they have have been foegiven. But do mention them the next time you confess as an expression of your sorrow and repentance.
