Good things are easily destroyed, but not easily created.

St Lambertus church in the village of Immerath was demolished today.

That’s too bad. I like to think that when beautiful churches are destroyed, God re-constructs them in heaven. Just as they were, only better, and full of souls praising Him.

A whole village, too. (That was a church for a hamlet whose population was around 1200, if my memory serves correctly.)

I remember small hamlets being moved to put in dams back in the day where we live, but of course since we live in the Western US they had nothing like the history that small towns in Europe have.
 
Germany hasn’t actually been doing well at all in Co2 reduction for a good number of years. I admire Merkel as she is one of the sane major world leaders right now, but she’s had to make concessions.

I’m not necessarily alone in saying this, - as Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI has spoken on the subject of the Church in his native country - that the Church probably shouldn’t expect to uphold all of its former glory on the European continent. Unfortunately, restoration on very old buildings (150+) can be prohibitively expensive, especially with steeples and bell towers. Depending on the scope, a single steeple restoration is going to be in the six digits.

The German Catholic Church, in particular, might be able to afford it due to some rather controversial tax laws, but the same can’t be said in any of the other Big 5 in Europe as far as I am aware.

I can sense your pain in your post. I am so sorry for the people of the village who were not only moved but had to watch their beloved Church destroyed. We are talking about God’s house,they may have thought they deconsecrated St. Lambertus in 2013, but you may be assured God’s Angels did not abandon but resided in this house of worship, love and adoration and that did not die. The church now is physically destroyed, and the voices of all who worshiped and adored our Blessed Savior, Our Blessed Mother,the Angels and the Saints,have moved to a new House of God with the same dear St.Lambertus name.All who were baptized, confirmed, made their first Communion and were Married in the Church they have destroyed, keep in your heart the precious memories and thank St. Lambertus.for being there, also you have his relics whiche were spared in the fire.To all the people of Immerath, God Bless each and every one of you. My prayers will include you for nights to come.🦋🦋🦋:
