This is what I "missed" when I was Mormon for 8 months... Holy Week and weddings

There is not real structure in the LDS church. I just LOVE Holy Week. I will always be Catholic. I love it!

I am also so happy I am engaged and getting married in the Holy Catholic Church and not a Mormon temple
 
Sounds like congratulations for your engagement are in order! Very happy news.

I love Holy Week too!

I was so surprised yesterday when our Mormon piano teacher asked what Good Friday is and then after I explained the Easter Triduum and all that we participate in during this holiest week of the year…she shrugged her shoulders and said that she would not be in church this Sunday but staying home and listening to general conference. 🤷

How will you observe Holy Week?

Curiously, it looks like Mormon.org has a new site for Easter, helives.mormon.org. On that website, there is a section called “Easter Week”, and says this-“The last week of Jesus Christ’s life changed the world forever. See how each day can help us better understand His miraculous mission—then and now.”. They then go through each day.

But yes, one thing I missed during my time as a Mormon was Holy Week. It is great to now participate in beautiful sacred liturgies marking the last moments of Christ’s earthly life.

I’m going to St. Patrick’s Cathedral shortly for the Solemn Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion and Death. For some reason it seems as if I’m working every Holy Saturday! I don’t believe I’ve ever attended the Vigil Mass. Hopefully next year.

I find the Mormons are very curious about what other Christians are “up to” at the holidays. How can Jesus’ last week be ignored?

St. Patrick’s Cathedral is so beautiful. Lucky you to be able to attend mass there (pun intended;))

My children ask to go to the Easter Vigil mass so I have gone the last two years. However, I never went before because I thought it was only for those in RCIA and their families and friends. Now I know what I have been missing all these years.
 
I love Holy Week, too. There’s just so much to experience; it’s the richest time in the life of the Church!

Obviously you don’t need to answer my questions if you feel they are too personal. I’m just curious. Why did you try Mormonism for eight months? Also, what led you back to the Catholic Church? Finally, I hear it’s hard to get out of the LDS church. Was this true for you? At any rate, welcome home!

I attended Holy Thursday Mass, and will attend the Good Friday Liturgy at 3pm today. Holy Saturday is out because it’s so late but will watch EWTN. I live in SLC so am used to questions about Good Friday, etc. They do have Conference this weekend but interestingly enough a lot go away for the weekend. This weekend is the beginning of outdoor activities. What I think is sad though, is our school district doesn’t begin spring break till next week. We are a minority here, but the children shouldn’t have to attend school on Good Friday. Anyway, welcome back! And Holy Week is beautiful. I really don’t mind Lent either. A little giving up is no match what Jesus did for us!

Nahhh…I would say you have not really experienced Holy Week unless you have experienced it in the Phil…it is a holiday there from Holy Thursday…:)😃

I can honestly say that I have “Holy Envy” for “Holy Week.” (and the Lenten season before it).
I participated in Lent this year and numerous times I thought, “Oh, I am not eating sweets because it is Lent!” And then I thought, “And this is to remind me of Christ and His love for me, Cool!” I plan to make Lenten participation a part of my walk with God.
I also wish I had time to go to the Latin mass I was invited too last night, but alas such Holy Week celebrations seem unlikely for me.

I think as we try to walk more closely with God on our faith journey, we yearn to know Jesus better. And this is a wonderful way to do so.

Isn’t it interesting that giving up sweets, or whatever else, during Lent brings home the idea of Christ’s sacrifice for us? God knows that we need to make this connection with him at least once a year to help us get through the rest of the year with Him as our center.

Hopefully, you will have time in the future to attend mass or Stations of the Cross during Holy Week.

I actually was Mormon 2x once for like 2 weeks (my parents were VERY upset I joined and I hated hurting them) and the next a bit longer. I think 8 months.

I liked the community aspect and feeling of belonging. I was in a place in my life just wanting to be liked and accepted and was around the age of the missionary guys and for some reason thought I would be married to one.

God had other plans. The second time I ha a calling in the nursery and I just wanted my own babies not to care for others, but it was just when I was going to be able to go to the temple to do baptisms for the dead. I was still reading a bunch of stuff on exmormon.org and stuff and I missed my family, so I got my named removed (yes it is very hard to do. They try to get you to stay)

I made a full confession and came back to the only church I knew I had truly always loved. Throughout my 8 months I did go to Mass sometimes with my parents. It was not going to Communion that hit a cord also.

They look for the weak and those needing community. Makes me sad, but so happy to be “Home”

It has been like 10 years now since I left fully. My friend sadly got sucked in and still is Mormon…

What does your CoJCoLDS mean?
 
Interesting to note that I am descended from the founding members of the Mormon church. My great-grandfather was one, but he and his father did not practice. My grandpa, who is now heaven with my grandma, decided to be Catholic like his mother. It’s unbelievable their doctrines. The don’t attend mass for a whole month so they can see “the Sessions” on TV. I don’t know how that works or why. They act really brain-washed, as though what they believe is the true religion. They are a heretical cult, the 19th Century version of Scientology. Joseph Smith was a conman and claimed to receive his divine revelation from an actual henchman of Satan, the supposed angel Moroni.

It’s interesting to note that they don’t have an equivalent of Holy Week. The most important week for Christians and they don’t even have it! I’m glad you came back, Patty. I know someone who is Mormon and is trying to get a divorce, but I don’t know how they handle that. They have a whole system that controls what you do and who you marry. They all automatically get married between 18 and 22. They make the kids do a marriage class to determine what they can offer their future spouse when they are about 10 or 12.

I was LDS for a long time, temple married and all. I’m also not a big fan of the LDS church as many of my posts on the subject make it quite clear. That said, there are so many things wrong with your post (mostly in the second half of it) that I don’t even really know where to start. They don’t cntol who you marry, LDS couples marry of their choosing and for lunch ve just like everyone else. They do not attend a special class as a youth to determine what they can offer their future spouse.

I’m all for exposing the LDS church for the fraud it is, but it should be done factually and for the things they actually practice. Not wild rumors that turn out to be baseless and false. Even in righteous opposition it is important to not bear false witness by repeating hearsay and rumor as facts. Because often, those turn out to, in caring degrees, not be accurate.
