This is why you want police

Maybe you should learn the gift of compassion!
For whom, exactly? Murderous gang members? Do you know anything about this gang and what the members do? Do you think it is compassionate to let them run loose among people so they can murder, rob, and do other bad things to people?

All four had entered the country as unaccompanied minors, according to ICE
It’s predictable that young men fending for themselves having come looking for something better, are behind the 8 ball from the beginning. Are the current structures of law and order equipped to step in before inevitable gang involvement happens? Gangs are collectives of the disenfranchised and marginalised people looking for a community and not finding it.

I think there is justification for reorganising structures of law and order to address these and other problems at their roots.

Organised crime is sustained by the system that the police maintain. Gang crime will never be abolished through the police force or law enforcement generally.

I disagree. A police force, properly deployed, combined with community support for that police force (this is very important!) is the only way to defeat organized crime and gangs.

The problem is police forces have been deployed improperly so as to destroy community support. There is no reason for military-style police to walk a beat or make general traffic stops, or take down a suspect reported for passing a questionable $20 bill, or for selling individual cigarettes, or to break into homes without knocking with guns blazing.

This happens a lot more than one thinks.

Do the victims have any recourse to compensation?

Will the police who ruined their lives be made responsible?

I don’t think so.

I don’t agree with illegal entry into a country.

Nevertheless, there are a lot of people who are in the U.S. illegally, but they don’t kill people. If they are attempting to live productive lives and treat others with respect, then it would be good if they could be assisted to gain legal status. And then move them to Illinois or other states that are continuing to lose our population as people move out of our states.

But these young men are murderers and deserve what we normally do to murderers in the U.S.–arrest, fair trial, and incarceration, probably for life. They owe society a great debt for killing someone, and the only way they can pay that is to be in prison so that society is safe from them.
