if it isn’t done in one sitting or eaten so fast that you could hurt yourself you’re ok

Gluttony is eating until way past full, gorging yourself.
An entire pizza varies quite a bit.
You’re likely fine. 🍕

How do you expect anyone here to know exactly?

All we can do is advise you the principles - you as a mature adult must apply them to your own circumstances and self-knowledge and conscience before God.

Or just go and confess anyway instead of agonising over the number of angels on the head of a pin. If there is any sin perhaps it is trying to justify your actions in this somewhat cerebral and externalised way?

People here will simply have different opinions, disagree, start fighting…because none knows you or your circumstances. You will walk away confused if you are looking for a clear yes or no.

I think gluttony is when it becomes unhealthy and a problem in general. If you were hungry it shouldnt have been a problem.

If you were not necessarily hungry after eating those first few pieces, then it could be gluttony. Eating for the sole purpose of pleasure is considered gluttony.
If that’s true, then any time one chooses tasty food over equally nutritious bland food, one is guilty of sin. Any time one seasons one’s food one is guilty of sin (since the seasoning is for pleasure). All desert would be sin.

The Pope reportedly gained weight from all the pizza he enjoyed when he moved to the Vatican. If the Pope can eat for pleasure, I don’t think eating for pleasure is a sin.

I think that she meant that you choose to eat because you like the feeling of pleasure. Just like addiction. You like the dopamin shots and it becomes more addictive over time.

Cheese, tomato sauce and pineapple.
That is “cheese covered bread”, not “pizza”.

It’s not a pizza without any dead animals . . .

🙂

hawk, trying to ignore that you ruined the bread with those mushy yellow things

Well, people do say breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Many believe the body does a lot to try to make up for those missing calories later on in the day.

I said for the sole purpose, just as other things can have distorted purposes, food can too. Eating for only the pleasure of it would be gluttony. We eat so we aren’t hungry anymore and to give us nutrients; it can taste good too but to place taste above our health could make it disordered.

I have heard of saints putting ashes in their food to make it bland because they were so afraid of gluttony. Gluttony was the first sin of mankind and is the gateway sin to lust. I think that’s why fasting is so powerful.

St. Thomas Aquinas talks extensively here on gluttony: http://www.newadvent.org/summa/3148.htm

If the Pope gained weight from all the pizza he ate, he must have been eating for pleasure, otherwise he would have stopped eating the moment he felt full.

Lots of things are eaten solely for pleasure. Like desert. People don’t eat cake and candy and sundaes because they’re hungry and need nutrition.

???

Fullness doesn’t happen like that, particularly from calorie-dense food.

Especially pizza 🙂
