Question for you all, since you’ve helped on my other questions.
I am speaking w/ a Protestant regarding the rapture (i know, i know…)
Here’s how she interprets sacred text:
"And my interpretation of 1 Thess. 4: 13-18 is that those who are dead in Christ (those who died from the time of his resurrection up until the “snatching up”) rise first, then those of us alive are called next.

And 1Thess. 1:10 about us waiting for Jesus to come for us so we can avoid the judgment. I don’t take that as avoiding Judgment altogether, I understand that to mean that we are spared from enduring the judgments in the Tribulation until the physical Second Coming of Christ to earth."

Sounds goofy ~

Thoughts please? What is the RCC teaching of where we go after our initial death (particular judgment)? I thought we are with Him in spirit until He resurrects the body to meet the spirit… ?

When each of us dies, our souls are immediately taken to the presence of God and judged. This is called the Particular Judgment. At this point we begin our eternal destiny. If we are going to hell, our souls go directly there. If we are deemed worthy of heaven, our souls will go directly to heaven, or if we are going to heaven but are in need of purification, we may go to Purgatory first for a while (everyone in Purgatory will eventually go to heaven). Whatever our fate, our souls will stay there (heaven or hell) until the end of time, at which time the Second Coming will occur.

At the Second Coming at the end of time, those Christians still alive will be taken to heaven (what some Protestants think of as of the rapture). Then will occur the General Judgment. At that time the souls of the living and the dead will be reunited with their bodies and brought together in God’s presence and judged before all. Those who have already been judged in the Particular Judgment will be brought from wherever their souls were -heaven, hell or Purgatory-- and have their judgment confirmed before all, so that both the justice and mercy of God will be manifest to all.

After this, time and Purgatory will be no more and all will enter with their souls and bodies into their eternal destiny, either hell or heaven.

If your friend is talking about the “snatching” being some secret rapture event, her scriture doesn’t support it. Christ’s return will be public and unmistakable.

(1 Thes 4:16) “the Lord Himself will descend from Heaven with a cry of command, with the archangel’s call, and with the sound of the trumpet of God”.

There is nothing secret about cries of command, angel calls, or trumpets.

Is this guy in cahoots with Sungenis? You say this is about the rapture, and it is, but it sure does a doozy on trying to debunk Israel as a nation.

You might want to write to this fellow and correct him, because St.Paul in Romans 11 teaches that there is a remnant of Israel chosen and saved by the Grace of God right now, just like those
in Elijah’s day. Jeremiah 31, as well as Romans 11, teaches God is not through with Israel as a nation.

We can certainly see the judgements Israel can go through, but there is still a remnant saved, so God has not cast aside Israel’s divine right to the land.

Will the unbelieving world be in tune to the announcement to that Bridegroom is coming to meet his Bride(Church)? Does the world even believe such a person is coming?

Matthew 25:6-
"At midnight the cry rang out: "Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!"

As we can see from verse 7, only the virgins woke to the call made in verse 6. And only half of them were waiting and ready to go out and met him.

This “stealing” of the bride by the bridegroom like a thief in the night was a typical Israeli marriage custom in those days.

Are you suggesting this refers to the “rapture”. The context of this parable is about the second final coming of Jesus. The marraige feast is a hint that they are going into Heaven for eternity. some are taken into heaven and some are left out of heaven.

Don’t rapturist claim that some people who are “left behind” end up in Heaven after the tribulation? Well this parable can’t be refering to the rapture becuase after the virgins go in THE DOORS ARE LOCKED. No one is getting into heaven after this event.

Your friend has probably heard of the “The Bible Answer Man,” Hank Hannegraaf. He’s a very well-known radio host on syndicated radio across the US and Canada. His book The Apocalypse Code debunks the Tim LaHaye myth in fluent Protestant language.

Hank’s conclusion is that the rapture is part of the 2nd coming of Christ, and in that 2nd coming Christ comes to judge the Earth. History is over at that point. Eternity begins. There will not be a seven-year Tribulation. There will not be millenial kingdom. You will get a second chance. It’s over when Jesus comes back.
