I received the following from a friend together with a list to which I was asked to add my name and pass on to as many people as possible. I really do not understand how these lists work because if I send to 10 friends each list will differ from that point on etc. etc. Please can you assist here as I think that there are too many attacks by the secular society on our Christian faith and principals. I think this is a threat to religious freedom.

PASTOR REMOVAL FROM TELEVISION

Removal of Joel Osteen, Joyce Meyer, Charles Stanley, David Jeremiah and other pastors from the airwaves.

An organization has been granted a Federal Hearing on this subject by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in Washington , D.C.

Their petition, Number 2493, would ultimately pave the way to stop the heading of the gospel l of our Lord and Savior, on the airwaves of America .

They have 287,000 signatures to back their stand. If this attempt is successful, all Sunday worship services being broadcast on the radio or by television will be stopped. This group is also campaigning to remove all Christmas programs and Christmas carols from public schools! As a Christian, you can help?

I would not want to ignore this request.

This must be about the 10th variation so far of an urban legend.
 
Urban Legend?

I hope it is. I really like those Christmas Shows and especially “The Christmas Carol” plays. 😃
 
Ah, good old Petition 2493. I remember hearing that in a sermon from a deacon when I was four years old, and I remember my parents both laughing and feeling sorry for the poor guy.

That’s older than I am.

There is no way you could be 2493 years old. that is not not possible short of a miracle. I’ve never heard os such a blatant lie. You being 2493 years old would be the biggests false thing I’ve ever heard… and what kind of name is Petition. what was your mother and father thinking. I don’t ever remember reading a name like that in the history books or the bible. That is a poposterous exageration. I never.:eek:
 
why would anyone want to remove them?all they are doing is teaching the world about god,the bible and faith.what is so wrong about that?i dont understand this at all.:mad:

Calm down its an urban legend. But we should expect the Church to be under attack. Jesus premosied that “the gates of hell would not prevail aginst it” We can infer then that hell would be fighting the Church every step of the way

I agree with you here. There are those who believe that because radio and tv are “public airwaves”, and they believe there is a “separation of church and state”, then allowing religious broadcasting violates the 1st amendment. It’s a complete misreading of the Constitution and the founder’s intent, but there it is.

I first dealt with this back in the mid 1970s when I was in PR for “The Lutheran Hour.” The original petition from 1974 was very specific and had nothing to due with banning religious broadcasting. Even in the early days, the story had mutated into a “ban on ***all ***religious broadcasting by Madalyn Murray O’Hair (who was alive and still active then)” monster.

Having been involved with debunking the story soon after its inception, I am astounded to see it still alive today. I am even more astounded at the number of seemingly intelligent and educated people who uncritically accept (and did accept) it as being true.

I guess not even the truth can get in the way of a good story:doh2:
 
i am glad to hear that also.they have helped me build my faith, believe more of the bible and god.they really do help in alot of ways.:love:
 
Many people are trying to take God out of the country. A friend of mine asked me if I’d seen the new dollar coins. He told me they don’t have “In God We Trust” on them. 😦 They are trying to take that out of our money. If they succeed, then other things will follow. This is where faith and perserverence comes in. Stay strong in your faith and remember what St. Padre Pio said “Pray and don’t worry”. Even Jesus Christ himself said the gates of hell will not prevail, and He said “Why worry about today”?
I know Jesus will come soon with the way of the world going down the tubes, especially this country that I love. Trust in God. As Christians, we cannot allow these things to happen when it comes to a head, we must fight the good fight and protest these things. We cannot sit back and do nothing.

Whenever you hear something like this, you should always check it out with Snopes!

Would it be worth pointing out that the Pledge of Allegiance did not have the words “under God” until 1954?

Or US paper money have “In God We Trust” until 1957?
