Indeed. Beautiful prayer.

Also a good time to remind everyone that you can get a plenary indulgence on Christ the King or any other day of the year by doing one of the following:
  1. praying five decades of the Rosary (in a row 🙂 ) in a church (if alone), or anywhere if prayed in a group, such as a family praying together.
  2. spending half an hour in adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, either exposed or in the tabernacle.
  3. spending half an hour devoutly reading sacred scripture.
  4. praying the stations of the cross using stations erected in a church.
Of course as well as the act itself one must confess within 2 weeks before or after doing this act, receive Communion on the same day and also pray an Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be for the Holy Father and his intentions.

Hi Lily … I wonder if you can give me a link for the Plenary Indulgence that can be obtained on any day at all. I have heard of this somewhere, but have not read anything about it. If I can get the link I can post it into the Daily Prayer and Liturgy thread…thanks heaps - Barb:)

Yup, it’s in section V of the 1986 Enchiridion of Indulgences - which is online at catholicliturgy.com/index.cfm/FuseAction/DocumentContents/Index/2/DocumentIndex/547

"5. Worth special mention are those grants which list works by which the Christian faithful, by performing any one of them, can obtain a plenary indulgence every day of the year:
  • adoration of the Blessed Sacrament for at least one half hour (no. 3);
  • devout reading of the Sacred Scriptures for at least one half hour (no. 50);
  • the devout performance of the Stations of the Cross (no. 63);
  • the recitation of the Marian Rosary in a church or oratory, with members of the family, in a religious Community, or in a pious association (no. 48). "

Just a little bit of a clarification here. As I understand it the reception of Holy Communion need NOT be on the same day as the indulgenced act, although it is fitting, encouraged, and laudable.

See the Norms on Indulgences #26 and #27:
  1. To acquire a plenary indulgence it is necessary to perform the work to which the indulgence is attached and to fulfill the following three conditions:

    1. *]sacramental confession
      *]Eucharistic Communion, and
      *]prayer for the intention of the Sovereign Pontiff.

    1. The three conditions may be fulfilled several days before or after the performance of the prescribed work; it is, however, fitting that Communion be received and the prayer for the intention of the Sovereign Pontiff be said on the same day the work is performed.

                               Likewise, The  Apostolic Penitentiary's document [The Gift of The Indulgence](http://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/tribunals/apost_penit/documents/rc_trib_appen_pro_20000129_indulgence_en.html) restates this:
    1. It is appropriate, but not necessary, that the sacramental Confession and especially Holy Communion and the prayer for the Pope’s intentions take place on the same day that the indulgenced work is performed; but it is sufficient that these sacred rites and prayers be carried out within several days (about 20) before or after the indulgenced act.

    Also, as you can see from The Gift of the Indulgence document, the phrase “several days” which applies to Confession, Communion, and prayers for the Pope’s intentions, has been clarified to include “about 20”. So we can at least safely extend two weeks to nearly three! weeks.

    Holy Mother Church seems quite generous. 🙂

Question: Our community has perpetual adoration at the local Catholic hospital’s chapel. There, the Blessed Sacrament is exposed and people can go in and pray any time, day or night. There are also masses prayed there at least twice a month, and on other special occasions.

Even though this isn’t a church, it is a chapel and I’m wondering if praying the Stations and the Rosary, etc. here counts for the plenary indulgence?

I’m not quite clear on this. Do you have to pray the Rosary in a group in a church or can you pray it on your own and still gain the plenary indulgence? I have always understood the plenary indulgence to be available only when the Rosary is prayed in a group in a church.

My understanding is that you can pray it on your own in a church or oratory and gain the Plenary Indulgence too, and that the group prayer can be outside of church as well - in other words ONE of the stipulated conditions needs to be met, not more than one 🤷

And scout, I’m sure the chapel counts the same as a church would 🙂

Conclusion: it matters. If I’m going to help some poor soul in purgatory with an indulgence gained on their behalf I want it to be a Plenary Indulgence which frees them from purgatory, not a Partial which only lessens their suffering.

Okay fine. How many per soul? are the partials cumlative?

Good idea. I really should not be posting now anyway. I am deeply grieving a death of a loved one, so my words are cold. I feel cold. I need the warmth of Our Lady, you are so right. I guess I came back to feel something again, and seeing stuff like this makes me feel even less.
