This was no insult to Islam

Hello brothers and sisters,

Some good points have been made so far.

I’d just like to add that I find it so hypocritical that we have to observe “angry Muslims protesting” to cartoons and harmless comments, but ask yourself this… when will we see any protests anywhere by rational Muslims who are offended by the numerous terrorist acts, murders, suicide bombings, church-building fires and desecrations, and genocides all done under the banner of Islam? The prevalent violence we have witnessed over the last decade or so by fanatical Muslims is just too tremendous to ignore. Yet, mainstream Islam and the overwhelming majority of Muslims are doing just that. Why?

In no way do I mock Muslims or Islam or any other religion (for the reason that the Catholic Church’s teachings have explicitly taught me to do), but the hypocrisy of Islamic protests is really starting to bother me. Is anyone else bothered by the hypocrisy?
 
Is it strange that we have yet to see a post here from a Muslim with “the other side of the story” ?

The Pope made a smart move,

By identifying the problem and having the guts to put it out there. Even though he knows people will always try defame him he challenges those thinking Muslims to react in a rational\peaceful way.

If they do not then he has made his point even more strongly, if they do then they have conceded the point and agree.

No-one else has the guts to point this out and this is a direct challenge in a peaceful manner. Any moderate Muslim would embrace this and agree.

If conversion from Islam was not punishable by death, and if proselytizing by other religions was not punishable by death; and if there were no penalties in Islamic states for merely being of another religion; give it 100 years and Islam would take its place with Zoroastrianism among the nearly defunct religions. Islamic clerics are not stupid. They know if they did not impose and enforce Islam with violence, it would fade away.
 
Fergal we need to waken up, those people that complain are living in the west, they set up their mosks and pretend to mingle with the community, but they refuse to join.
The riot over a cartoon, the riot over a speech, actually a speech that was penned centuries ago.
They don’t have a hidden agenda, they have a quite open agenda, look at the videos from Arab TV with the so-called follower of Islam killing in the name of God, when they cut an American citizens throat in front of all to see.

They aren’t peaceful, and I’ll ask a direct question of those Islamic people living in the west, what are you doing here ?
because if we westerners were in the East, we’d have to go by your laws.
No Islam isn’t a peaceful religion, it would kill Christians on a whim, and no Mohammed wasn’t peaceful, and he definitely wasn’t a prophet.

And I’m in Ireland, and if I had my way you wouldn’t be here, Islam brain washes it’s followers, and those that don’t follow it they deal with, by smiting their neck.

Catholics have had many insults, are we going to go out and riot and smite their necks and muder in the name of , ummmm a cartoon, a speech that was penned centuries ago ?
What about the Da Vinci Code ? grow up Muslims.

Jesus said those words that Benedict just repeated, and yes if you want to live in Ireland, then don’t tell us what to do, the british tried that, if you don’t like where you live, then you know where to go.

If you live by the sword you will die by the sword, and that will be the downfall of the Islamic states, they will perish on the words of Jesus Christ.
 
Well said my Irish brothers. Let’s call a spade a spade. Our ancestors suffered under the Sassenach and were martyrs. All of Christendom now is subject to becoming martyrs. May the example of our ancestors give us in the twenty-first century hope. Faith of our fathers, living still, in spite of fire, dungeon, and sword…

And where is the Muslim outrage over the attacks you spoke of. Or is it that the West just doesn’t listen?

OH ! do they have TV where you live ? because I saw on mine them burning a crash test dummy of the Pope, and yes I saw them smiting the neck of an American citizen.
If they don’t like the west, then why are so many of them here, probably because when the call goes up, then their so called holy war will start, and their 70 plus virgins will be waiting on the other side, how sick, how perverse.
 
Mark, I don’t know how far deep south you are but I am in Louisiana, Baton Rouge, and yes, there were protests here in BR about the cartoons. Not many, of course, since the Islamic community here is associated with LSU but world wide? I defer to the contemporaries of my ancestors. I am an American of Irish ancestry. My family’s been here (Louisiana) before the Famine.

To be honest, I don’t know from which you come Mark. I don’t know many Catholic southerners who would hold your opinon. I am, however, willing to listen if you would care to elaborate.

Very few people in the deep South of the United States would express such a viewpoint. Let us wait and see what Mark has to say.
 
OH COME ON!!! I finally got around to actually reading the Pope’s speech. Give me a break. The quote is only in there to set up the Holy Father’s discussion of faith and reason. He’s noting that the Greek concept of faith couldn’t entertain irrational, seemingly evil acts in the name of God yet Islam could because of the belief in the overarching, transcendent nature of God. He’s saying that Muslims see Allah as beyond the concept of right and wrong, good and evil, and it wouldn’t be unreasonable to have him command you to do something seemingly evil and counter to his commandments. But if you know Benedict’s speeches/essays, you’d understand this one little blurb on Islam was only part of a much greater point being made about faith and reason.

Everyones cheering “Right on Ratzi” and while I’m right there with you, I don’t think the Holy Father even conceived that this one small blurb would be taken so out of context and as an insult to the Religion of Peace. :rolleyes:

You’re right, Brian. I don’t think the Pope realized what kind of reaction he was going to get with the Muslims take on his out-of-context quote (which they imposed). It’s a shame that it appears even the most intellectual of Muslims ignored the entire speech and only focused on parts that they felt would offend.😦

It’s time the USA and other western countries gave them the big heave -ho, close your borders USA, close your borders Europe.
France was a warning of what will happen in the west, will we heed it ?
And to all Muslims, come back when you don’t desire to smite our necks, come back when we can worship without fear of reprisal.
 
Of the secular news articles I’ve read, they’ve all taken the Pope’s comments out of context.

In context the Holy Father says nothing controversial or worth apologizing for.

I hope he doesn’t apologize. I’m tired of people apologizing because someone was offended.
 
Of course Islam can always apoligise to the rest of the world come to that…
 
John Paul II apologized for the sins of the Church. He apologized for things that he and his contemporaries had nothing to do with and even condemn. He apologized for things that happened long in the past and under different circumstances.

Has there been any instance of any Muslim cleric aplogozing for all the terror perpetrated in the name of Allah?
