I did not know Catholics were this light about someone leaving their church. I remember my neighbor when I was a kid, and when their son left the Catholic Church, they went bananas. I dont think they got over it for many years either. They said he was an apostate and unbeliever for doing that, even though he did join another church, the Baptist one.
Catholics recognize the validity of the Sacraments/Mysteries of the Orthodox Church: Eucharist, Marriage, etc.; however, we all know that Protestant Churches do not have valid Sacraments. So yes, since in John 6 Jesus tells us that we MUST eat His Flesh and Drink His Blood or we will not have Life in us, it would be a huge deal if someone left the Orthodox or Catholic Church for a Protestant Church.

Christy, I would just like to say I hope you aren’t making this decision solely on what people have said on an internet forum. I do hope you study this on your own a lot and also talk to people in person about this, as people on the internet can often be a lot more hostile.

God bless you on your journey.
Yes it was a well rounded decision. My investigation may not have gotten started if it weren’t for this site. So to CatholicAnswers I am grateful!

I will pray that we are not separate Churches for much longer so that we can all be worshiping together again soon.

why are you waiting until 8/6/08 to leave. why not leave today if i may ask?

Christy,

I am sure some Catholics (in communion with Rome) will get on my case about this, but I am happy for you! At least you are genuinely trying to find the truth and trying to follow Christ the best you can.

You are being drawn there for reasons unbeknownst to any of us…most likely even unknown to you…in the divine scheme of things.

I do pray for unity in the Christian faith through truth. I am just glad to see people like you still search for it. I am just glad you will still get to receive our Lord; body, blood, soul and divinity in the Most Blessed Sacrament.

May God continue to lead you where He needs you and may you heed His call!
Thank you for your very kind words. I appreciate it very much.

I’m sure it would be very easy for Mother Theresa to “find Jesus” in you!

Best Wishes,
Christy

By chance, are you going to the Antiochean Archdiocese?
No, the Greek.

Locally the Antiochean Church is in, let’s say, not such a great area.

For any non-Orthodox reading this…yes we may be in different Archdiocese; however, we are both Orthodox - the teaching/beliefs and liturgy are exactly the same! This type of true unity is only found in the Orthodox Church because it is being lead by the Holy Spirit.

General mediated fathers are not enough. It was predestined by God and willed by Him that there should be a special mediated Father, who alone preserves the full unity of the Church, to bear, even in a visible sense, the special presence of the One Savior, Jesus Christ.

Hence, from all eternity, the Petrine office would exist.

In the OT, 10 of 12 tribes broke away, but the remnant had the true kingship.

Is it any different in the NT? No. For four of the five sees broke with Peter, but Peter, as the singular special father, preserved the true kingship.

And just as the North that was in schism was spanked first by assyria, then, later, the true kings Judah in the South by babylon, so it was the East has been spanked first by atheistic materialism, and the true king of the west shall see his kingdom spanked by the relativistic materialists.
There is only one Head of the Church as Christ’s Bride does not have two heads, Christ’s Bride is not a freak. That One Head of the Church is Jesus, not Peter.

The Catholic Church is completely splintered within herself both in Liturgy, dogma, practices - one Roman Catholic Church I attended did not even have a Tabernacle in the Church! just one example.

Yet the Orthodox Church, which has no visible individual that supposedly hold the unity of the Church, is in complete union with each other - complete union in Tradition, Liturgy, Dogma, practices, etc. No one can explain it without realizing that the Holy Spirit is protecting the Orthodox Church just as Jesus promised.

With the two choices in front of me, I had to make the best decision for myself and my spiritual welfare. If you prefer to remain in union with Rome with all that confusion, if that is what is best for you and your spiritual welfare and it makes you feel good to cling onto this Petrine thing which is not found in Early Church History than by all means you are going to do what you are going to do.

Thanks Deborah!
good luck. i am a new Catholic myself. you will have to come back and let us know how it is. since i am new to the Catholic faith, i am not that educated about the differences between the East and West. i pray some day we will be unified again. i hope you will find your new faith very fulfilling. right now i believe the one true church to be the Roman Catholic Church in Rome and i believe in the Pope as our spiritual shepherd here on earth. i am very happy that i have been led to the Roman Catholic Church.

why are you waiting until 8/6/08 to leave. why not leave today if i may ask?
I work two jobs, so I don’t have time in the day to just leave work and go to the Church for Confession and on Monday night after Small Paraclesis, the priest and his wife had friends visiting them and so we decided it would be tomorrow after Small Paraclesis. Today was Great Paraclesis, but it was in the morning while I work.

There is no rush. The Orthodox Church has been around for 2,000 years and is not going anywhere. God Willing, I will be around a bit longer too. Orthodoxy is full of love and peace, there is no “do or die” like, “If I don’t join now and die tonight I will burn in hell forever” - it just doesn’t work that way. God knows my heart. I am patiently waiting to make what is in my heart “official”.

Why the big announcement complete with all the exclamation points? Rather a lot of fanfare and perhaps not too well thought through in the sense of communion or “converting” people to your new Orthodox faith. 🤷

At any rate, it seems you are eager to please God. He wants to be found.
God bless, Christy.

Same here. I’ve talked to Orthodox people. Their arguments were not nearly as convincing as you seem to have found them. 🤷
Here are a few people to try - you can google them:

Fr. Theodore Pulcini (a Roman Catholic Priest who converted to Orthodoxy)

Clark Carlton (a convert to Orthodoxy from Protestant)

Michael Whelton (a convert to the Roman Catholic Church, who remained Catholic for over 30 years before discovering that the Orthodox Church existed. One discovered he research and prayed and eventually became Orthodox)

Frank Schaeffer (a convert to Orthodoxy from Protestant - his father was a very famous Protestant Scholar: Francis Schaeffer - before he converted to Orthodoxy, some of his friends did convert to the Catholic Church…why didn’t he???).

Go ahead and read their works & listen to their testimonies/conversion stories, unless you are afraid you will be convinced… I dare you

Sarah, I’m just that **excited! ** And when I am excited about something I want everyone to know. Sorry if it seems offensive to you.

Thank you Catholic Answers, especially the Eastern Catholic Forum, for leading me back out of communion with the Roman Church and into communion with the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church aka the Orthodox Churches!

I am so happy and relieved to be joining the true historical Church which has been protected by the Holy Spirit which has prevented it from teaching error for the last couple thousand years. The Roman Church has not had such a protection which can be seen clearly with the doctrines it has come up with in the last several hundred years since the Church of Rome removed herself from union with the Churches established by the Apostles.

Thank you!
Your posting is immature and rude. Not to meantion innacurate. If your going to attack something than name what you are attacking. What doctrine? I will pray for you. God bless you very much.

Jesus built his Church on Peter. Jesus left Peter in charge of his Church on Earth.

What Roman Catholic Church did you visit that didn’t have a tabernacle. Are you sure the church didn’t have a tabernalce or was the tabernacle in a blessed chapel like the one at St. Peter’s Basilica. Be sure of your facts before publicly putting them on a forum as that is definately not the norm for a Roman Catholic Church not to have a tabernacle.

In your opinion, what Dogma is in error? Pardon the oxymoron.

No, it didn’t “seem offensive”…it just seems rather odd the way you are going about this. But whatever.

God bless—
