Yes, a new restaurant just opened next to the new Deseret Book store. I hear the restaurant makes excellent coffee.

As to alcohol, UT limits the number of liquor licenses for restaurants and bars. At this time there are none available.

Did you know that Dale Broadhurst was a devout RLDS at the time he started his study comparing the BoM to Spalding’s “Manuscript Story”? He says at that time, he was teetering between LDS and RLDS. His RLDS advisors discouraged him from going ahead with the project, so he found some non-Mormons who would sponsor it. 😛

I don’t know if the hotel will sell alcohol, but I understand a very well known SLC hotel does provide adult movies in the rooms. Maybe these will get removed in the future as they are doing a “clean up” of downtown SLC?
I sure hope so. It was very disappointing to see it offered at this particular establishment.😦
 
Yeah. Mormon ethics have their positives. Sexuality and alcohol and drugs and family, Seems a disappointment that they prefer the money over ethics when it comes to their businesses.
 
It does seem odd that they would pour money into those things.

But, when you look at their past, it makes sense. Most of their important decisions were made for money…like the reversal of polygamy and granting blacks the priesthood
 
LOL!!! Go for the $$$$$ So true. And the economics of persisting in failing investments is what keeps the core going, despite the fact that they KNOW it to be a fraud.

At the time Smith gave the world his “translation” no-one in it could translate Egyptian heiroglyphics and so he must have felt that he was on pretty safe ground. Unfortunately for him a guy called Champillion began work on the inscriptions on the Rosetta stone shortly after Smith’s claimed translation of the funerary scroll and was ultimately able to translate hieroglyphs. Upon the discovery of the scroll that Smith purported to have translated, the game was up for all but those who are unaware of the facts or who choose to ignore them and the latter must be placing their souls in great peril.
Smith did indeed seem to live for what he believed, he was busy accumulating sexual partners, wealth and power over his followers, calling himself a lieutenant general and aiming for the Presidency of the US at the end of his short life. He was unique alright but not in his religious thinking which was mainly done for him by Sidney Rigdon until he started deluding himself about even that - see the King Follett discourse.

I’d be happy just finding evidence of a precolumbian honey bee, horse or elephant. 😉 Forget the 46 cities, 11 unique coin types, and 7 unique metals including steel.

Yeah…then you will never be happy. The Book of Mormon is like the Chronicles of Narnia…both are fictional books set in a fictional country… the doifference is, The Chronicales of Narnia were good books and did not have a gazillion “and it came to pass”

I don’t know, CT Russell, William Miller and Ellen Gould White could be in the running as well. But when comparing all these theoligies that sproughted up in 19th century America, you could be right, Smith may not have an equal. He very well could take the cake.

Interesting whyme - Please give an example of a quote or scriptural reference showing JS a one of America’s greatest religious “thinkers.”

I guess I always thought JS was revealing what God told him to without thinking, and when he wasn’t doing that…he was saying things that we are now being told to forget.

No, Joe lived to make money and have power. From the days he was scamming people digging for treasure, to allegedly finding gold plates, to scamming people in bank scandal, to his death, JHose was interested in money and power. And he got it. He was able to tell people, “God said for mall of you build me a house” and they built it. He then sought power and glory…from Mayor, to General, to a try at President, he wanted power and glory.

The very things Jesus and the true Apostles said not to strive for.

Greatest religious thinkers? Not hardly. He copied most of his material. No, he will go down as one of the greatest scam artists in history.
