The President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Thomas S. Monson, died on Tuesday evening in his home in Salt Lake City. Regardless of those you who hate the LDS church and its doctrine, this man lived the gospel of Jesus Christ through word and action. Preaching for the widow, the poor, and others looked down upon by the rest of us. He served folks most of his life, from the example of his parents, as a LDS bishop and a General Authority for over 50 years. His example and words will be missed.

I would think, those who do not like mt church, would respect a person that lived the gospel through word and deed.

Again he will be missed.

They do not believe the same Gospel as Christians do. Mormons are NOT Christians. They reject the Holy Trinity.

Redacted, spyridon was correct.

@Lemuel and @JanSobieskiIII This is inappropriate.

“De mortuis nil nisi bonum” - “of the dead, say nothing but good.”

Especially when he’s not even cold yet. At least let the mans family grieve and his body be laid to rest before leveling harsh criticisms at him. I’m not saying he’s above reproach or even that such criticisms are not true - I’m saying such criticisms made at this point in time are inappropriate and uncharitable, in this case.

I posted this already on the other thread about his death (there seem to be several) but will post again here:
Eternal rest grant unto Mr. Monson, O Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon him.
May he rest in peace.
May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
Amen.

May the Lord have mercy on Mr. Monson’s soul and guide him to the Heavenly Kingdom, and comfort his loved ones left behind on earth. In Jesus’ Name I humbly pray. Amen.

Perhaps a bit inappropriate. I’m sorry, after investing almost 60 years of my life into what I discovered to be an evil cult, I admit, it’s difficult at times to just bite my tongue. I could write a book on the wiles of Mormonism.

My question about which gospel President Monson lived stands.

My comment about loving gay people and their children was a quip about his faith, not really about him.

My comment about his other wives was the same.

As for him, he was probably a decent man, perhaps deceived, perhaps part of the deception. I can’t say for sure. God will be his judge.

Other than that, on the subject of the evils of Mormonism, I won’t be silenced. If I’m not allowed to say what I have to say here, I’ll find another outlet. It’s no big deal to me, either way.

And the next alleged “President”/“Prophet” of the Mormon church is…?

Thank you, Lemuel. That ties in with “the next in line” that I’ve spoken of before.

May God have mercy on his soul.

That’s about the most charitable thing any Christian can say given what he professed on earth.

No, he did not live the Gospel. He lived a lie. Though, I still think we should all pray for his soul, that God shows mercy on him, as we should do for both non-Christian and Christian. Though this man did not have the grace of baptism, God is merciful, and in his mercy, I think there is a good chance God will save him. Let us pray!

He is 93 years old.
The new guy is 93?!!😮😮😮 Well, his tenure won’t be long.

I don’t know, 93, I mean, I don’t know his health, and I don’t know the average lifespan of Mormons, but he can do it for 10 years and he’d be 103. He wouldn’t exhaust his lifespan necessarily, although it is true, that he is up there in age. But that brings up another problem, should Mormons really be trusting people at that age to be making major decisions for them? Whilst I know people who are elderly that are as sharp as tacts, I know that’s not always that common.

Yeah. I’m amazed they didn’t go with someone much younger, 83 at least. 😉

It’s because they have an order that has existed from the beginning. Whoever is the most senior apostle is always the next man in line for the job. There’s no question. They don’t have a decision to make. Only a confirmation.
