Thank you for giving me this information. I will certainly remember Thomas Monson in my prayers. I want you to know that I have know hate for LDS church or members. You are still my brothers and sisters. I pray God will welcome the soul of Thomas into His loving embrace, and that the Merciful heart of Jesus will comfort and watch over his family and friends. God Bless you.🦋🦋

Until the Mormons on Amazon revealed last year that Mormons do smoke, drink, have caffeine, etc, I believed that all Mormons were wholesome like the freshly fallen snow. Yes, there are some who don’t indulge in these things. And they are to be acknowledged. But the squeaky clean image the Mormon religion presented to the public for so many years was not the one that has since come to light. The truths that have been revealed tarnish their image.

Um, I’m not so naive that I “believed that all Mormons were wholesome like the freshly fallen snow”, any more than I believe that all Catholics wait to have sex until they are married (we had so many teen pregnancies in my Catholic high school it was being mocked as “St. _________'s Home for Unwed Mothers”) or that none of them use contraception. I do know however that there are individual Mormons who at least try to live up to certain standards and also that it was very hard to get an alcoholic drink in a lot of places when we traveled in Utah.

The only Mormons I knew of at the time were the Osmonds, (This was the 70s and 80s.) So of course, because they didn’t smoke, drink, have caffeine or anything else detrimental to the body, I thought they were all like that. And those in the public eye did seem to be the same way.

Then I heard the stories by the Mormons on Amazon in their discussions (last year) and they weren’t converts who’d done these things previously but cradle Mormons. At the same time, one story on the news told about the soda machines at BYU and other places in Utah. And I went, “Whoa!” Supposedly, those were for the students who weren’t Mormons and out of towners who weren’t Mormon.

It was an eye opener for sure.

Those Mormons who do as you suggested are not seen as faithful, temple worthy Mormons. Faithful Mormons observe the Word of Wisdom, Law of Chasity, etc.

Emphasis on faithful, not to be confused with jack Mormons, the unfaithful

Jack Mormons are the ones who are openly unfaithful. That does not account for the (probably) millions of Mormons who are secretly unfaithful.

I agree with you, AngelaMarie. But to hear the individual Mormons tell it, they are priests who got the anointing from who got the anointing from and so on and so on. One of them is a descendant of Joseph Smith and gets real riled if you say anything against him (JS). The ones I was engaged in dialogue with claimed to also also work in their temples doing the unfinished work of their ancestors, baptizing living members for the dead who weren’t baptized during their lifetimes, etc.

It’s not derogatory. Interestingly enough the opposite of a ‘Jack Mormon’ is a ‘Molly Mormon’. It’s always the women who are perceived to be more faithful I suppose. 😉

The statement of Cardinal DiNardo on the passing of Thomas S Monson:
January 3, 2018

Today, President Thomas S. Monson, leader of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, died at his home in Salt Lake City, Utah. President Monson as the church’s 16th president presided over a faith community that now numbers 15.8 million members. Known for his hands-on approach and concern for the poor, he also presided over a church confronting challenges and change, within and without.

His Eminence, Cardinal Daniel N. DiNardo, Archbishop of Galveston-Houston and President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, issued the following statement on receiving the news of President Monson’s death:

“The Catholic Church in the United States wishes to extend to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints community our prayers and condolences on the death of President Monson. During his tenure as president, understanding and friendship developed between our two communities on national and local levels. As we engage important questions on family and the dignity of the human person, Catholics and Mormons work together and support each other. Today, Catholics join their Latter-day Saints brothers and sisters in commending his soul to the mercy and love of God.”

Very nice. I was watching the funeral and then the procession and heard the bells tolls. Kudos to the Madeleine and her Bishop

I hope he repented of all of the false doctrine that ensnared millions of people and condemned their souls to hell.
  • I don’t know of any basis for claiming that anyone will be in hell for believing false doctrine.
  • With regards to Monson the LDS have a laundry list of things that are unique to their faith. I believe the BOM is true. JS was a prophet. etc. Then they have things that could be repeated by any Christian. Jesus saved me from my sins. Back in 2013 someone looked through Monson’s testimonies going back to 2005. None of them contained any of references to any items that were unique to Mormons.

They didn’t look very hard.

And what savior is that? … is it the only begotten Son who came from the Father and entered the world by a virgin?.. It is that Son or another? … Which Savior is he talking about? Is it the one found in the N.T. revelation?
LDS accept completely Jesus as described by the New Testament.

Jesus was the First Born in the Preexistence. (Colossians 1:15)
Jesus created the Earth (John 1:3)
Jesus was born of a virgin mother (Matthew 1:18)
Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist (Matthew 3:16)
Jesus lived a sinless life. (1 Peter 2:22)
Jesus is subordinate to God the Father (John 14:28, John 5:43, Matthew 28:18)
Jesus died for our sins (1 John 2:2)
Jesus has power over death. (John 11:25)
Jesus is One with the Father in power, unity, thought, compassion, but not in essence or substance. He is one with the Father is the same way that His disciples should be one. (John 17:22)
Jesus is resurrected. (Luke 24)
Jesus was not always God, but was given His role by God the Father and some point in time. (Matthew 28:18, Romans 1:4)

And a whole lot more…
I know that Joseph Smith was confused about the person of Christ
This statement is incorrect. Jesus Christ appeared to Joseph Smith on more than one occasion. So, he would be the least confused about Jesus of anyone.
and never repented of rejecting the highest revelation there is, the New Testament. He sought another testament to replace it.
This is not true. There is no “New Testament replacement” in the LDS Church. LDS embrace the New Testament along with all other scripture that God wants us to have.

I hope this helps…

This statement is incorrect. Jesus Christ did not appear to Joseph Smith, the liar and serial adulterer.

No, I wasn’t asking about Jesus being the first born Son, I know He was, I was asking if your Jesus is the ONLY begotten Son? In other words, there are no other sons, just one in all creation?
