Thomistic Or Augustinian approach?

Dear Forum

I am trying to figure out which Catholic Philosopher I want to side with.

I heard somewhere that Pappa Benedict the Sixteenth is More St. Augustine in approach, while Bl. John Paul the Second was more Thomistic.

Can anyone hear please explain to me the differences in their approach to Philosphy and Theology, (Of course, I named them the patrons of my Philosophy course, so they are both asked to pray for me as I do my Philosophy), In a Nutshell, if possible.

This is not intended to be a competition on who is better, I just want to see who thinks what, so I can line my own way of thinking up with either of them, or perhaps both

I would read for myself, but I have A LOT of other Philosophy to do and I don’t want to be bothered at the moment, although If you list some resources for later reading, I will take a look!!

Both men have been used heavily by the Church in explaining the Faith.
Thomas was the more complete philosopher in my opinion. And Augustine leaned heavily on Plato whereas Thomas leaned heavily on Aristotle going so far as to refer to him as The Philosopher.

Another problem. You will find it hard to chart a career on Augustinian philosophy. In fact I don’t know where you could get it.

However you can help answer your own question. Much of Augustine is available at NewAdvent.org. And the Summa Theologiae is available on line there as well.
I have heard a good place to start on Augustine is with his Confessions.
And don’t forget the recommendations I made to you on the other thread.

If I may be so bold, could You please explain how? the basic tenet, etc.

Just curious, like I said, I love philosophy and If im gonna philosophize, I’d best do it in the Spirit of the Saints and Holy Mother Church!!
