Can anyone recommend a Thomistic psychologist in the Tucson, Arizona area?

I have a family member in need, and want to avoid the ordinary avenue of anti-depressant medication.

I’m in Tucson, too!

I know one who is certainly Thomistic: Dr. Clifford Simske. He gave an excellent presentation at the Tucson Catholic Physicians Guild’s monthly meeting this past September called “Faith, Reason, and Science.” The meetings are second Saturdays of each month. You should definitely come! RSVP here.

You might be interested in Fr. Ripperger; he would probably know of other Thomistic psychologists in the Tucson area; see his website here.

Fr. Ripperger has degrees in theology and a PhD in psychology. He was the first person I’ve heard to say that when more Catholics frequented confession prior to Vatican II, their rate of mental health was the lowest of any other group. Since psychology is the study of the soul, it makes sense that priests, who want to save souls with God’s grace, are the masters of healing the soul.

You might be interested in this dissertation, which cites Fr. Ripperger’s book. It also has an excellent bibliography of Catholic psychology books.
