Let’s see how long this pointless thread can go on…
Well lets all of us do something good out of this ridiculous thread by ALL reporting him to the Mod’s. If this isn’t a case of troll behaviour, I don’t know what is.

I don’t think that’s necessary. It’s pretty clear what the truth is in this matter…sometimes an overwhelming response is better than removal.

Whoever says going up for a blessing is not a sin is quite a lay person.

You are OBLIGATED to recieve Holy Communion if you get into the line. Even if you remembered you are in mortal sin or that you ate something or whatever, you cannot not recieve, you are obligated to do so. It is a sin of scandal is you don’t.

Now I would like to argument on the suggestions of doing a spiritual communion in mortal sin… But that is another fight.
Are you the Pope? Do you think you carry more authority than the Magisterium of the Church? You know who else thought they were more Catholic than the Pope? MARTIN LUTHER.

If you are in the communion line and suddenly the Priest turns into a fire breathing dragon you are required to receive so as to not show disrespect for the Priest.

oO they can DO that? woah… 😉

I think my next line, in such a circumstance would be: “I’ve heard of transubstantiation, but this is RIDICULOUS!” 😛

I think the OP has a point. If you are already in line it seems inappropriate to leave the line. I don’t think any sin would be imputed to you, if you honestly did not realize you should not be recieving when you entered the line.

In all seriousness, I think the OP ia really off base. If you are conscious of mortal sin, you are NOT to receive. As far as “scandal” to others, I am wondering why other parishoners are so concerned with the actions of others when they are in line to receive our Lord. It’s really none of their business, and they need to be focusing on themselves, and the blessing they are about to receive.

I thought about that too, but see then I’d have to also report myself and everyone else who keeps responding. It’s the endless responses that have grown this thread to 3 pages and counting now lol.

Ah well. So…what’s everyone doing for Christmas?

With regard to entering the line without intending to receive Holy Communion there’s nothing prohibiting it.
Yes, there is. Redemptionis Sacramentum, an instruction issued by the CDW, is rather clear.

[81.] The Church’s custom shows that it is necessary for each person to examine himself at depth,[163] and **that anyone who is conscious of grave sin should not celebrate or receive the Body of the Lord without prior sacramental confession, **except for grave reason when the possibility of confession is lacking; in this case he will remember that he is bound by the obligation of making an act of perfect contrition, which includes the intention to confess as soon as possible”.[164]

[82.] Moreover, “the Church has drawn up norms aimed at fostering the frequent and fruitful access of the faithful to the Eucharistic table and at determining the objective conditions under which Communion may not be given”.[165]

[83.] It is certainly best that all who are participating in the celebration of Holy Mass with the necessary dispositions should receive Communion. Nevertheless, it sometimes happens that Christ’s faithful approach the altar as a group indiscriminately. It pertains to the Pastors prudently and firmly to correct such an abuse.

[84.] Furthermore when Holy Mass is celebrated for a large crowd - for example, in large cities - care should be taken lest out of ignorance non-Catholics or even non-Christians come forward for Holy Communion, without taking into account the Church’s Magisterium in matters pertaining to doctrine and discipline. It is the duty of Pastors at an opportune moment to inform those present of the authenticity and the discipline that are strictly to be observed.

It most certainly is an abuse to approach without intent to receive.

This discussion was not about approaching without intent to recieve, but about at some point between rising and reaching the fron of the line coming to the realization you should not recieve

I’ll answer the question about the first thing I would think of someone who left the line:

“I hope he makes it to the bathroom before he starts throwing up.”

What an amusing way to spend Christmas Eve. I just wonder if Pro Domima really lives in Rome?

This is different from staying on the pew, since it is not an obligation to recieve at every mass. I have sometimes assisted 9 masses in a day. I could only recieve in two. Others don’t have to worry why I did not get up to recieve. But if I did, I cannot go back, even if I remember that this would be exceeding the limit placed by canon 917.
So if I assist at more than one Mass per day, that makes me holier than those who only go to one Mass? What relevance is this in determining what constitutes scandal? Isn’t trying to impress us with your church-going habits a form of scandal? Certainly doesn’t fall under the virtue of humility.
