Those Ladies Nights Out without husbands

Well, maybe it’s because DH and I get so little time together, I really don’t like the ladies’ night out.

Now lunch with the ladies or girls’ day out or afternoon book club… no problem. He’s a work, so I don’t miss him. He’s always telling me to call up my friends to meet for lunch or go shopping or get together. But evenings… he said he’s never felt the urge to hang out at a bar with his friends after work since we’ve been married (going on 22 years… and he never did it much when he was single.) He wants to be with me. Or we get together with friends and go out. But neither one of us has ever really wanted to be out while the other one was at home. Occasionally he’ll go to his brother’s house, which is across the road from us, for a poker game (mostly with family–I don’t play cards) while I stay home and read. But for the most part we cherish our evenings together.

Maybe it’s because we’re surrounded by family members who have been widowed… they would all give anything for another night at home with their spouses. Kind of makes us appreciate our time together more than ever.
This pretty much describes me and my hubby too. We just prefer each other’s company more than being apart.

I much prefer my husband’s company to anyone else’s. But going out ONCE A YEAR with girlfriends is not impacting that. I typically try to plan it for when he has to work late or has something else going on anyway. To suggest that those of us who do enjoy going out once in a very rare while with girlfriends don’t prefer our husband’s company to that of friend’s is a bit much.

Besides - I think it is healthy for a marriage for husband and wife to spend a little apart once in awhile - it helps to make us more well rounded and interesting people to be with.

Where did I say that me and my husband don’t do things apart, with friends?. We do, with friends, with couples, together and apart. All I said was that HE and I prefer the company of each other rather than being apart. It was not implied as a slam on anyone that does go out with their friends apart from their spouse. Please don’t read anymore into than I was saying me and my husband prefer being with each other to being apart.

Why do I have the “South Park” theme in my head when I see your username?? 😃

. 😃
That is because that is where I live!!! LOL Our claim to fame.👍

I absolutely encourage my hubby to do things with other guys. And he does. And I go with the girls, but maybe once or twice a summer, but not every weekend…these women do it every weekend. I guess its personal preference on how you like to spend your time.

This weekend we are going with another couple to see Citizen Cope (who is so good). Cannot wait.

I would say this…

Is your wife/husband immature?
Do they have a recent history of doing stupid things there such as trying pick up members of the opposite sex, engaging in behavior that just looks bad (like trying to drink a large number of shots, being obnoxious, etc)?
Have they spent an unreasonable amount of money, drunk way too much?
Have they acted in such a way to bring discredit to themselves/family while there?
Have they neglected the family by being there?
Have they tried to drive afterwards when they are clearly under the influence of alcohol?

If you have a no for each of these questions, there is absolutely no reason for them not to be able to go and enjoy themselves. We do have to trust our spouses. Believe me… if one of them wants to do something extra-marital, they will find a way/venue to facilitate it.

If I had any clue what a Citizen Cope was… well, have fun!

I do know what Citizen Kane is and would love to go see that this weekend 🙂

So I live in a pretty small rural mountain town. I have lots of married friends with children. I love going out to coffee with these ladies. We will either meet at the local coffee shops or each others homes. Our families get together on weekends.

Lately the big trend is to ditch the husbands and kids at night and go to one of the local bars to listen to bands or what ever. I have pretty much always declined and would rather be with my family or with another couple.

I guess my question is…WHAT DOES EVERYONE ELSE THINK OF THE LADIES NIGHT OUT AT THE BAR STUFF???🤷
No bars for this wife. The bar scene is so yuck! All the drunks and promiscuity (well at least in my community) Why not coffee and a chat? Bars are just so not the thing. I empathize with your decision not to go out with the girls.

I woudl go to coffeehouses more, except they don’t serve scotch. 🤷

To the OP - I think you answered your own question - if you would RATHER spend the time with hubby and the kids, or other friends, then go ahead and do that. If you would RATHER spend some time with your grilfriends, have a cocktail, and listen to music, then do that.

For my time, if I’m away from the kids, I am AT LEAST getting a glass of wine for my time away. Heck, my grilfriend cuts and colors my hair every two months, and I even make sure I have a glass of wine THEN! The minutes I spend away from my children are precious few, so the fact that I get to do what I want to do, even only for a bit, is absolutely liberating!! 🙂
