Those poor Jehovahs

I was out walking my town the other day, and I was approached by 4 jehovites (jehovahswitnesses) and the pack leader told me that the books left out of their Bible (Tobit, Wisdom, Sirach…etc) support the New Testament.

So, I went home and that night I decided to run through the Gospel of John, and count everytime one of those “non-supporting” books of Scripture were either directly quoted or paraphrased by John himself. It’s quite amazing really.

Where does this garbage belief that the books like Tobit, Sirach, Macabees, and whatnot don’ support the New Testament come from? And, how come these people don’t do their own homework?

(As a side-note she also told me that dogs have souls and pray to God just like men and women do… I told her she was out of her mind. Dogs don’t have souls.)

That argument is common to all Protestants.
(As a side-note she also told me that dogs have souls and pray to God just like men and women do… I told her she was out of her mind. Dogs don’t have souls.)

The Church teaches that plants and animals do have souls.

Dogs do not have human souls, but they do have animal souls. (Their souls do not have the powers of intellect and will.) A soul is the principle of life in a living thing or being. Thus plants also have souls - vegetative souls.

As to whether or not they pray, they certainly don’t pray in the way men do. Yet, all of creation gives praise and glory to God when it does what He created it to do (living things and inanimate things). If you pray the Liturgy of Hours, you’re very familiar with the canticle from Daniel 3:57-88:
Bless the Lord, all you works of the Lord.
Praise and exalt Him above all forever.
…
All you waters above the heavens, bless the Lord.
…
Sun and moon, bless the Lord
…
Everything growing from the earth, bless the Lord.
…
All you beasts, wild and tame, bless the Lord.
You sons of men bless the Lord.
…

It’s rather wonderful to walk outdoors, looking at all of creation, and seeing it as joined together in praise of God. Time then to remember - “You sons of men, bless the Lord”.
 
Nothing the Witnesses tell you will stand up to rigorous examination. Theirs is a house of cards and they are victims of shoddy theology. They really are those poor Jehovah’s Witnesses.

I do two things after any encounter with Witnesses, look up what they claimed and then feel intense sorrow for their being sold that set of beliefs. Pray for them.

I have been witnessing to Jehovahs Witnesses for over thirty years. Please keep in mind that these people are those that were truly seeking the Lord and love Him, but unknowingly fell into the Watchtower’s trap. They are now thoroughly brainwashed. Since the Watchtower claims to be God’s theocratic organization and spokesperson on earth,
not to do its bidding is to confront God directly. Doing so results in dis-fellowshipping, which to a Witness is the same as being condemmed to Hell. Please pray for them.

I’ve had my share of visitations by JW’s.
At first it was ok to discuss their beliefs but I soon learned that their only interest was to dominate the conversation with their own versions of scriptures and also to cut down other Christian faiths. I now carry a Bible in my vehicle (in case I am elsewhere and they show up there). I will not listen to them until I get my Bible and we pull up the same scriptures and read both versions. But first I ask them to show me the first page to see who was the editor of their book. You will not find it! Beware of wolves in sheep clothing who think they know better. Do not allow them into your home. Do not let them lead the conversation. Study the scriptures and be ready to refute them with the truth because it is easy to do that if you know the scriptures. They will often only pull up several verses that they regurgitate over and over. They do not know God. But we must love them anyway.
I once wrote an article in a newspaper clearly identifying their false beliefs after having asked them many times not to come to my door anymore. That did it!
When they tell you they are part of the 400,000 who will make it to heaven, simply ask them what number they are. They will not be able to answer that and at that point tell them that if they are 400,000 and 1, they are goners! That will make them think.
Anyway, pray for them, they need it.

Actually, they think only 140,000 people will be saved.:rolleyes:
 
If you really want to get JWs to think, ask them who Jesus is. They will tell you that He is the first creation of God. Then ask if they believe if Jesus is the Word (Logos) of God as described in John 1:1-3. They will usually say yes. Then ask them if He made everything and nothing was made that He didn’t make, then how did He make Himself? Also ask them to explain Isaiah 44:24. These questions may ignite a spark of the light of truth in them. Pray earnestly to the Holy Spirit for their salvetion.

The JW teach that the United Nations and the USA are the fulfillments of the beasts mentioned in the Revelations 13 and 17.

And yes, Christ was not crucified on the Cross but on an erected post.

You also might want to ask them how Jesus and Michael the arch angle are the same person.

When they start reading their book (it’s not a Bible, they’ve changed it so much), during my reply, I can see them “fading out,” and not listening, so when I finish, I ask them what they think or to repeat something I said.
This usually throws them off because they have no idea what I said, so they try to jump to another of their standard, memorized arguments.
DON’T LET THEM GET AWAY WITH IT!
Just politely inform them that you’re not through plumbing the first topic they raised. Then bring up more Scripture on that topic, and always, always make them respond.
If you keep them off balance and don’t let them give you their game plan and ignore your reply, they become very uncomfortable.
Keep at them with courtesy & love: Either they won’t come back or they’ll bring somebody new next time. More company! :cool:
 
how do I refute the New World Translation? I mean, why is it not that reliable? just asking anyway…

It was not translated by reputable scholars. But the JWs refuse to recognize any translation of scripture other than that put out by the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society
(WBTS). The WBTS claims that all translations other than their own are corrupt and therefore are products of Satan and are not to be believed or used by JWs.

I worked with a JW, I didn’t inquire too much about her beliefs, b/c I really did not care to hear about it, but I have to say she was an extremely good and compassionate nurse and a very sweet person.

The belief that the deuterocanonicals don’t support the new testament etc. is not unique to JW’s. That is common to every single protestant sect that I have ever found. And most don’t actually look to see if the claim is true. They just repeat it. The canard is regularly repeated the dueterocanonicals are never cited by the apostles. The more informed among them fall back to never authoritatively cite it. Of course that isn’t true either.

I looked into it and am presently in complete awe at how much they are used. I see Christ citing Wisdom ch 1 & 2 as prophetic when he was asked for a sign and said no sign but that of Jonah.

As to the JWs pray for them. Some of them will see the light.

And as to dogs not having soles. Mine ran off with my sole a few times till he got older and quit eating my shoes. 😃
