Those who have overcome trials in courtship, how do you fix emotional betrayal?

The default on whether or not to pursue a romantic prospect should be “no,” not yes.
Exactly! You should never date someone that you aren’t sure about because they haven’t done anything egregious enough “warrant” a breakup. You should be ready and willing to dump people, even wonderful people, when things just don’t bode well for life together.

I simply cannot understand how anyone could say " Why does he have to be dumped even if she’s the immature one?" Ummmm…because people are not generic fill ins for a relationship. You aren’t with a standard bf/gf model, you’re in a relationship with a human being. And if that human being can’t really be in a healthy romantic relationship right now, then yes, you have to lose your partner. It isn’t a punishment. It’s just the result of your partner being a unique person with their own wants, needs, and issues that they need to take care of before pursuing other things.

Yes. The goal is to say, “I do!!” not “Well, I guess so…I hope so…we’ll see…”

And yes, when it comes to relationship problems, inertia and the status quo are not your friends. Solve it or dissolve over it, but don’t think time will fix it for you. Patience is required, but patience and inaction are not the same things.

Absolutely!

But too many times the " But I LOVE him!!! I can fix this! LOVE will change it!" Attitude reigns in young adult relationships, logic, seems in short supply with young love. No matter the gender. Which is why the people that are in the “move on” corner are the villains. Don’t you understand!? 😉

“I can fix him” is arrogant.

Oh there are more details. There always are. But they come mostly in the form that strays away from “gee, he is just a great guy and this is his only screw up.”

If the poster is betrayed enough to post here, there is more to it than a one time deal.

My wife and I did one year long distance before we were married. We had an agreement that still stands to this day 13 years and 5 kids later. If either of us were uncomfortable with a situation, we told the other, the other, then did not do it. This was anything, it engages incredible trust in someone to give them veto rights over your freedom. You find out right away if the other person is either controlling or sneaky.

I wanted to go to a concert once, with a pretty wild crowd. She said no, I was fine with that. It was probably better than the trouble I would have been surrounded by.

She had a mouse in her dorm room once. She was going to stay in a male’s room whom she was friends with, I said no, she pulled the “oh don’t worry he is gay” line and I still said I did not like the idea at all. So she found someone else to stay with.

Here is the thing, if she had lied to me, or I lied to her, and she found out about it or I found out about it it would have been a deal breaker. And that is why I know I can trust her and she can trust me, because I know her character. And I know it because of how she acted when we were courting.

Think of it this way, if the OPs boyfriend loved her like a man would love a wife, then wouldn’t the last thing he would want to do is hurt her, much less divulge personal stuff about her to another girl? That is no honorable, laying his life down for his woman type of man. He can learn from the incident and maybe make a great husband to a woman someday. And she can find someone who is marriage ready.
Whole post 👍
