Why does it matter whether Jesus expressly addressed this issue? The church has never restricted her doctrines to what can be gleaned from scripture. This is why you should not do it either.
Everything Jesus taught was about achieving eternal salvation, love one another as I have loved you, serving others, washing the feet of his disciples, love and pray for your enemies. Please tell me how any of this justifies carrying a gun and using it. I believe the UK law is more in line with the teaching of Jesus, when it comes to guns.

You base your position on your personal interpretation of scripture. I base mine on the teaching of the church. You cannot insist that yours is the proper understanding without also asserting that the church is wrong, which is also a rejection of the very basis for her existence.*The Church gratefully accepts and lovingly preserves the entire deposit of Revelation, treating it with religious respect and fulfilling her mission of authentically interpreting God’s law in the light of the Gospel. *(Veritatis Splendor, #45)
If she is wrong on this point she can hardly be said to have authentically interpreted God’s law, and she has failed in her mission.

I shall be out shortly wondering the streets until around 4 am, with two wonderful ladies, one who is almost eighty, and the other suffering from arthritis, we hope to bring a little peace to our town tonight. Whatever the churches opinion might be, I am just so pleased that we are unlikely to come into contact with guns.

Well, I can applaud your actions even as I disagree with your position on this matter.

Thanks, and many people within our church share similar views to yourself, it can be difficult encouraging new volunteers to go out in faith. The Street Pastors imitative was intended to offer practical solutions to people on the streets, based on scripture.

We have been confronted with many violent incidents, and when I come across a violent person….

I am reminded that I shall never look into the eyes of anyone, who does not matter to God.

I have to search for the good in all people.

We are all brothers and sisters in this one world.

Our prayers are for a kind and compassionate outcome to violence, and in the last eight years, we have given thanks for all the good outcomes.
