I read (and I know that the internet is not the best source) that thoughts of sin are also counted against us by Our Blessed Lord on our judgment. This person who claimed he had visions of heaven and hell said that the Thou shall not Kill Commandment also refers to our killing of hope in other people, etc. Please set this straight because I want to make a Good Confession and feel that maybe i have omitted sins that will count against me.

Yes, our thoughts can be sinful. But, I think you may have an over exaggerated view of what this means.

If you are in doubt, talk to your pastor.

Look up the Hebrew … Thou Shalt Not Murder …

With respect to things such as ruining the reputation of another, calumny, slander, etc, consider the commandments

Thou Shalt Not Bear False Witness

Thou Shalt Not Covet

Thou Shalt Not Steal.

Need to be careful with language; the precise meaning of words is important.

Find a comprehensive guide to the Examination of Conscience.

Also do a search for “scrupulosity” here with the Catholic Answers Forums search engine.

Words of our Lord: “You have heard that it was said to them of old: Thou shalt not kill. And whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment. But I say to you, that whosoever is angry with his brother, shall be in danger of the judgment.” Mt 5:21-22a

Many acts fall under this Commandment, and the Catechism gives a pretty comprehensive summary in the section on the Fifth Commandment. I’d suggest reading this, then come back if you have questions.

👍👍

You seem to be referring to someones private revelation which you are not bound to. Therefore as Ike says…Talk to your priest.

Examinations of conscience often expound upon the ten commandments in a way far beyond the literal interpretations of the words. For example, the sixth commandment, “Thou shalt not commit adultery” is expanded to include all sins of lust, and the fifth" thou shalt not murder" is expanded to include arguments, curses, and all acts of violence, regardless of whether death occurred. The “killing of hope in other people” seems to me to be a reasonable extension of that.

That being said, don’t worry about too many details, lest you become scrupulous. Instead, find a good examination of conscience and use it. Here is one. 👍

When one feels guilt but is not sure of the source it doesn’t hurt to ask God to forgive sins of which we are not even aware.

Regarding killing, Jesus says even calling our brother “fool” will be judged.
