Is it a mortal sin to use silently God’s name in vain?
Sometimes it still slips through my head before I can stop it.

Do you fully consent to it? If you had the ability would you honestly want God to damn that person/object to hell eternally? Is it a mortal sin to use silently God’s name in vain?

While using God’s name irreverently is a sin (if it’s habitual, it’s either a venial sin or not a sin at all- it’s just bad manners like any other swearing), and these sins fall under this commandment, I do not believe this is the primary meaning of this commandment. I understand it to be a command not to use God to exalt yourself (for example: acting especially pious in order to win the respect- or money- of other people, or to side with Christianity as an opportunity to demean others and feel justified for doing so). Work on this habit like you would any other bad habit. This is a habit for a lot of people (including myselfIs it a mortal sin to use silently God’s name in vain?

There is no need for anyone to go out of their way to confess this- “mark a” has said it slips through his head before he can stop it- that means it’s habitual and is not mortal. If a person is going to confession, they might as well mention it, but they shouldn’t feel like they have to confess it- that may be scrupulosity. My guess is it would be venial but definetly bring it up in confession.
While confessing venial sins is not neccesary, it is a good practice especially if one is struggling with a particular sin. About scrupulousity, the scrupulous person should probably avoid confessing doubtful sins, not venial sins. For example, while the scrupulous person should feel free to confessing at looking at someone inappropriatley, they should probably not confess that someone attractive walked by them and an impure thought came into their mind since it is doubtful this is sinful. However, if the scrupulous person is suffering from fears of impure thoughts when they see someone attractive it might be wise to confess this so that the confessor can give them some help in dealing with those situations. There is no need for anyone to go out of their way to confess this- “mark a” has said it slips through his head before he can stop it- that means it’s habitual and is not mortal.
