Thought experiment. No possibility of stopping legal access to abortion in first trimester. What do pro-lifers do?

So it is a few years in the future and, wherever you live, it has become clear that for the next hundred years at least there will be no possibility of any legal ban on first trimester abortions. They will be free, easily available, and delivered on request in safe facilities based in registered (or whatever hospitals are where you live) hospitals. So you and a group of fellow pro-life realists get together and decide to do what? What I am getting at here is is the legal fight the only way to reduce the numbers of abortions? Might not a greater reduction be achieved through other means? If this is possible - what means?

Education is the key at this point.

No politician would be willing to write legislation banning all abortions before 20 weeks.

Fact is, no Bishop could advise that politician on what the penalty should be for those who violated such a law.

So, we’re in a dilemma.

Educate people how to prevent pregnancy, but also, just what an abortion does to the human life who is of their flesh and blood.

You create a world where women are loved, supported and know that a baby is not the end of their lives.

Where teens don’t grow up hearing their parents say “I KNEW that girl was going to end up knocked up, do you see what they let her wear to Mass” or “If you EVER get a girl pregnant, do not think we are going to raise your kid”.

Where women don’t lose their jobs because they have to take off for pre-natal medical care, where health care is a right not a privilege.

A world where placing a child for adoption with a loving family is seen as a noble, laudable thing.

A world where the disabled are not considered trash.

You know, we begin acting like Catholics!

What possible event would “make it clear” that the depravity of abortion was immutable for a hundred years?

When I was a young man, I was taught that the people of the USSR loved and would fight to the death for their nation’s ideology of tyranny. It was pointless to try and fight it, we had to live with it forever.

Of course the events of the 1980’s proved that was wrong, there is no reason to give up hope

It is in the nature of thought experiments that you cannot talk about them if you challenge their premises. It’s about what ‘let’s imagine’ and ‘if’ mean.

For a start, we can end tax payer funded abortion . Christians unite and STOP voting for pro choice politicians. They would NEVER get elected without us. Get our tax money out of planned parenthood. Otherwise, we are all complicit to the abortion evils.

This does not accept the premises of the thought experiment. Abortions are freely and permanently available. Source of funding is irrelevant.

So, we are living in a fantasy land thought experiment ?

No you are not living in it, any more than when you do a quadratic equation you are living in it, or when you pose a hypothetical situation in moral theology you are living in it. You are not living in it, you are just doing it. Like a crossword.

Nothing is free. Someone pays for it. Even crossword puzzles.

Abortion is never safe for the baby and not so safe for the mother either. Then there are the lifetime depression issues that the mother and father have to deal with. They both know what they did.

Pro-lifers could stop buying products from Johnson and Johnson and other large companies that support Planned Parenthood. They could try to buy things from a list of approved companies.

I’ve often believed we need more people like C.S. Lewis and G.K. Chesterton to help convert people.

WOW yes. I wish someone would post a complete list of all planned parenthood supporting companies. Not sure this was the desired response to the posters question. But “thought experiments” can go outside the box !

Live what the church teaches. Raise our children in the faith and respect the God given dignity of all, at whatever stage of life they happen to be. Pray for conversion.
