What would happen if, tomorrow morning, we had definitive proof that catastrophic climate change was impossible and could never happen.

Would Al Gore breathe a big sigh of relief and say—“Well good; now we can go back to worrying about smoking, or bad inner city schools, or other persistent, immediate problems.”Of course not. The reaction from climate alarmists and the left would be a combination of outrage and despair. Why? Because they need this manufactured crisis in order to have any chance of gaining the political power they seek.

Or, as an alternative thought experiment, what would happen if, tomorrow morning, we had definitive proof that catastrophic climate change was certain and immediate?

Would the Heartland Institute and WattsUpWithThat and all those who are so vigorously contesting global warming say “Wow, I guess we were wrong! We will have to seriously cut back on burning fossil fuels.”

I’d throw a party. Then start asking how come 99% of scientific experts and staggeringly monstrous amounts of evidence showing that climate change is real was actually wrong.

God made fossil fuels…coal, oil, etc. You can’t power a 747 jet with wind power!

The industry must make the use of these fuels…safer & cleaner.

That’s what I was going to say. 😛 And I don’t even really buy into the man-made climate change hype.

I don’t think this though experiment is going to go well. Whatever evidence was produced in either scenario would be questioned by the other side. 🤷

Well, if humanogenic CC was certain, there would be no more 747 travel. Or huge Ford pickups, except in agriculture. Or…etc. Until running such things from green hydrogen became possible.

Now, if those in the halls of government refused to take part in the austerity, a political tsunami might be seen.

There would be no more air or land travel…what so ever! I drive a Prius and I still need gas. All electric cars are not practical!

God made Marijuana too. Should we therefore make it legal?

Depends, I guess, on what one means by “catastrophic”. If that means we’ll all burn to a crisp, certainly and immediately, about all there would be to do would be to kiss our fannies goodbye.

Indeed.

If “catastrophic” means losing ten feet of sea-level, and a few dozen bird species and whatnot, the world might say sad, but tough cookies.

If however, it meant a Venusian Earth meltdown, everybody’d be praying for guidance in getting down to nature fast enough.

Maybe if Al Gore and rich liberals in the West gave up their private jets and airplane rides to climate conferences and perhaps if their much poorer supporters said they’d give up their internet access and off-roading trips?

Man-made climate change is a hoax. It’s also a lame excuse for some Catholics to support liberal politicians for their owns selfish reasons like feeling and looking good in front of secular liberals whose approval they so desperately seek.

Such good stewardship.

This kind of attitude always baffles me. If some liberal politician would also, say, increase awareness of the theory of gravity for whatever political purpose, would you also attempt to find flaws in gravitation, despite the irrefutable scientific evidence to the contrary?

The validity of scientific theories isn’t determined by what kind of politicians make policies to combat the consequences of said theories, but something independent – namely, the peer review process within the scientific community which itself is based on evidence.

And that is how it is, regardless of how heinous other policies may be of said liberal politicians (abortion, SSM, etc.)

Such good stewardship.
Actually, as an environmental scientist, I find conservatives and those who do not accept “global warming” as better stewards of the environment than most other folks.

Just go to any college campus housing, look in their dumpster after move-out day and tell me if that is sustainable.

Speaking of sustainability, a lot of “global warming” policy is actually unsustainable and causing more damage to the environment including the extinction of species.

I added a response to your message in my previous one, I edited it to not make another message.
