What do you think about humility?
When can you say you are humble? It is said the moment you say you are humble you aren’t any more. But how do you guide yourself?

Luke 1:48 “Because He hath regarded the humility of his handmaid”
How wise Holy Virgin Mary speaks of her humility.
I think humility is the attitude that makes us open to love. The more humility the more love is possible. This is what God liked about Holy Virgin Mary, her great heart.
What are your thoughts about humility?
 
In Chuch at vigil Mass last night, Father did a homily on the reading of St. Paul to the Ephesians 4:1-6. It lists a few of the traits Christians should have, and his homily was on humility specifically. He said that humility is the acknowledgement that every single good thing you have, every good thing you are, comes from God. Pride is the opposite, thinking that somehow you are good or have good things because of you. I thought that was a pretty good summary and something to focus on- to remember to give God credit for every good thing in my life.
 
For the proud, humility is like a heavily armed guard who keeps a constant eye on the prison cell door. But for the righteous, humility is like the liberator who frees the helpless slave from the evil of his or her wicked master.
 
Read this chapter from The Holy Rule of Saint Benedict, in which the saint discusses the topic of humility on a very nice, detailed manner.

As a result of original sin humans never has too much humility-rarely enough! But we’re to be transformed into the image of God, and Jesus revealed God, as, amazingly, humble , counter to our typical concept of Him. Anyway, the Sermon on the Mount is really the key teaching on the means to achieving the kingdom of God.
 
Humility is acknowledging that all goodness is from God, as someone else said. It does not deny goodness where it exists, either, but praises God for it.

Humility comes from the Latin word humus, meaning “dirt”. This is also the root for the word human. Humility is therefore to always accept the truth that you are human, and that being human is always remembering that you are dirt before God 🙂
 
In substance abuse recovery I learned that true humility is radical honesty. Never making more or less an anything or any attribute. Because some acts of being “humble” are actually acts of inside out pride…if that makes sense.

Saying “it was nothing, oh, I didn’t do anything.” etc when actually it WAS something…isn’t honest. Humility is full and complete acceptance. Recognizing our place in the order of things and acting responsible from that place.

Upon pondering that , I find that I agree that is true humility.
 
I’m not humble, I’m full of pride and I bring sins of Pride to confession every week. I think way too much about myself and not enough about God and others.

I like what you wrote about humility opening oneself to love - I agree with that.

I’m working on humility. The Litany of Humility helps.
 
Humility is knowing we are here to know, love, and serve God, and love our neighbor. Rather than having ego / pride / self centered nature.
 
Humility is not about self-deprecation or being a doormat. I do not know what true humility looks like to be honest.
