Thoughts on a rosary for a man

Maria this sounds like a wonderful gift. As a man who carries one with him all the time and makes them I’ll let you know what my favorite three are that I carry with me.
  1. Irish Penal Rosary made from Square Connemara marble.
  • This one is great for in a pocket as it’s only a single decade.
  1. Black Beaded K of C Rosary
  • Not really appropriate unless he is a brother knight.
  1. a Maroon Wooden Bead Fatima Rosary.
  • I get tired of just black so a dark maroon wood adds a bit of color to my rosary when I carry this one.
I think that olive wood with good sturdy construction would be a great choice too. Go with larger beads, especially if he works with his hands at all. It will help him find the beads easier.

not a man… but i make rosaries and have had men pick out beads and rosaries for themselves from me…

in BEAD rosaries, black and brown top the list. with plain metallic (silver/gold/copper) running pretty close. other choices are Turquoise, deep blue, bright red, and clear

in the knotted cord Rosaries:
maroon, and multi color dark blues win over black. black comes in about even with red/wht/ble… college colors, and other primary colors.

what i have noticed is that anything that even smacks of a pastel is rejected instantly… as is light blue, anything pink, and most yellows (the exception to the rule on yellow is the “OL of Guadalupe” color rosaries, which have yellow in them, they are very popular for men)
 
The round bead Connemara marble rosary is beautiful. (I know what I want next Christmas.) until now, I used to want a hematite bead rosary with stainless fittings. My current is olive wood squarish beads but I never get to use it - usually one of my daughters wants to and I end up using one of the “house” rosaries.

I also have a bright pink plastic one that daughter #2 gave me. I used to hang it from my van’s mirror to remind me to drive more civilly, and to remind me of my girls.
 
I understand the the OP was asking for suggestions on a rosary. While I have one, it really just hangs on the side of my dresser mirror. On the other hand, I wear a four way cross daily. I can feel it move. I can touch it through my shirt. It is a part of me.

What’s my point? I would try to get him a gift that he is most likely to use and is a reminder of his faith. It may be a rosary for him or it may be a St Christopher medal or something else.
 
What a wonderful gift for him. However, I think that the most important consideration is not so much what the rosary is made of, but how easy it is to carry and use.
I have several rosaries, all the same, simple Red glass beads with a silver Miraculous Medal centerpiece and a Silver Crucifix. (Red is my favorite color). I got them all from The Association of the Miraculous Medal in Perryville, MO, www.amm.org ,of which I am a member.
But I really like the small zippered leather case I use to store them. The zippered case is small and easy to carry in my pocket (most men do not carry purses) and keeps it from getting damaged and torn apart. I keep one at home and one in the glove box of each of my two vehicles, so they are always handy for me to use.
Doesn’t matter what it looks like, all that matters is that he use it to pray.

I love the olive wood, but my daily Rosary is cheap and I would not be upset if I lost it. My favorite is the one my mother bought for me the Christmas before she died. I put it in back in her hand as she lay dying in hospice and I intend to be buried with it someday.
 
Father Corapi has some neat masculine looking ones on his site that have Ox bone crosses. I just saw these today.
