Thoughts on Birth control?

Hey everyone, I wanted to get peoples opinion on this,
my doctor prescribed me pills for this (sorry if this is weird to anyone),
I’m 18 and i need them for a health condition, no i am not “active”, and never had a relationship…i don’t plan to. But my doctor said that i need the pill to regulate things, because in the future, it could cause problems such as cysts and cancer.

I am not sure if i should take them if it is a sin, but if i do i plan on staying the same…no partners and such…

It seems it is not Birth Control as the Title say but Health Control, as you said.
So, the answer is obvious: you may take it as you take an aspirin, even better, for aspirin you may take it without doctor’s control…
 
I’d also add that “birth control” is not what is condemned by the Church as intrinsically evil. Contracepting is what is intrinsically evil. In other words the regulation of births is not intrinsically evil, its the method used “contraception” that is the problem. Regulating births is neutral morally and can be morally wrong or right depending on the reasons and circumstances by which a couple decides to use NFP/abstain etc…

Taking the hormones in birth control pills do nothing to cure what is wrong with you. The doc is slapping a dangerous bandaid on a real condition.

Seek out doc who will find you a real treatment.
 
Well, the doctor did say that, then he said he’d rather have a specialist check me out, so I went and they said that would help me, I’ve tried teas and things but nothing, they also sent me to do some blood work, so I’m going to see if I take them after the results, because in the future it could cause those problems and problems with having children
 
Not the pill causing that, if I don’t get it treated that could happen
 
Teas are not medical treatment.

The pill DOES cause cancer.

:mad: If you’re going to be critical of how the doctor conducts medicine, you should at least offer an alternative.
 
Maria1993, there may be other medical alternatives. While I’m sure your doctor is providing the best care he/she can according to the knowledge available, there are some alternative techniques not commonly learned. Take a look at naprotechnology.com/ and see if they provide a viable alternative.
 
There is no moral culpability in your situation since you are not contracepting. Any other medical advice needs to come from a doctor. I will pray that things look up for you. God bless… teachccd
 
If you aren’t using the pill for contraception, but I agree with the other posters and your doctor that you should see a specialist and see if there is a permanant and safer solution to your problem. I assume at one point you will want to be married and you could not use this medication while having relations with your husband because it can cause an abortion if you do concieve.

Where does the Church teach this? In such a case any miscarriage would be a physical evil, but not a moral evil.

Seeking out a second opinion is about the only medical advice we are allowed to give on the forum. (for obvious reasons.)

Hey buddy, do you have MD after your name? We are not to give medical advice on this site. this young woman has sought the advice of a doctor, who also sent her to a specialist. Both recommend hormone therapy. She has stated that she does not intend to use this as contraception. I know a number of women who have used such therapy to their benefit.

Maria1993, this decision is completely between you and your doctor. It is not, absolutely not, a sin to seek and accept treatment. If it is shown statistically that this treatment will help you have children in the future, and may assist in preventing cancer, that is an added benefit. My best advise would be to go ahead and accept treatment, but if you are still doubtful, seek counsel of your parish priest or confessor. God Bless.

No, the fact that the medication causes the baby not to be able to implant in the uterus, if one is concieved, is written on the label. I think you already know this. It’s pretty common knowledge.

Yes, but what is not common knowledge is that couples are not required to abstain when being treated for a medical condition. Please see the link in my last post.
