I’ve seen numerous pictures and videos of children playing mass, and I just wanted to know the Traditional viewpoint of it.

What do you feel about children playing/simulating the Holy Sacrifice, and would you let your own child do it?

I did it as a kid, using the old Latin Mass. My missal had a guide of all the items covering the chalice, but I didn’t attempt any vestments.

I think many if not most kids who grew up in the 50s, 60s and 70s played Mass at least once.

White Necco wafer candies looked almost exactly like hosts, and would tend to put the idea in kids’ minds. I know the kids on my street did it and my mother talked about my cousins having done it years before.

We also had a situation at my Catholic school where some of the boys in about grade 3 who’d been sent over to the church to help with some housekeeping chores decided to imitate the priests at the altar and were doing some of the Mass gestures and such. They got in a lot of trouble because it was the actual sanctuary with Jesus present, so it was considered irreverent. Looking back though, I find it kind of heartwarming that they were interested in what the priest did. Although they shouldn’t have been “playing Mass” in the sanctuary.
