Does anyone have this Bible – or used it?
The New Oxford Annotated Bible with the Apocrypha, Revised Standard Version.
amazon.com/Annotated-Apocrypha-Standard-Expanded-Hardcover/dp/0195283481
This edition is edited by Bruce M. Metzger – highly respected giant in Biblical translation and scholarship.
Oxford University Press (therefore, it MUST be good!)
And on a related note:
Does anyone have recommendations for an excellent study bible (containing the deuterocanonical books)? I prefer something that draws on the resources of numerous scholars.
I have a couple great study bibles – although obviously with a very Protestant slant, for example, the ESV Study Bible – and of course, missing the 7 deuterocanonical books. Beautiful study bible (esvstudybible.org/), which I bought when I was still a Protestant. Many of my protestant friends use this one (or the NIV Study Bible) – and I still find it helpful for at least understanding their systematic approach to interpreting scripture.
I’m hoping there’s a good Catholic equivalent that has rich notes, maps, overview of Catholic doctrine (just like the ESV has an overview of Protestant doctrine), copious notes from early church fathers — and most importantly — something that the Catholic Church would normally use for the training of seminarians, deacons, or lay people.
Prefer modern English translation (no Douay-Rheims, please!)
