Thoughts on Rosicrucian teachings?

The strangest experience has happened to me these couple of weeks. I have been studying various faiths (spending most of my time on Catholic material) and I came across Rosicrucian material that a friend sent me.

Every time I have read Rosicrucian material, I have felt nauseous, dizzy, and unwell right afterward.

What is the Catholic consensus on Rosicrucian material? I have such a strange reaction to it.

For one thing, you have NO NEED of it.
Don’t do what makes ya sick / nauseous

If you are studying the Catholic faith to receive confirmation it would be best to stay away from those teachings that are contrary. It could present a danger to your faith.

Yep, it was part of the movement of secret societies that arose after the Protestant Reformation. The Reformers rejection of a visible Church authority opened a portal for these sorts of secret structures that exploited peoples need for spiritual leadership. The Catholic Church has a strong policy against secret societies.
 
On wikipedia says they were connected with Freemasonry and whether masons created or not is not known. It is said to have influenced the Scottish lodges since they were developing just when Rosicrucianism appeared.

If you feel you really must research it, perhaps to have some answers for your friend, look for it on the home page of Catholic Answers. You will find several articles from the Catholic perspective.
 
After reading the Wiki entry it sounds a bit like Gnosticism, i.e. secret/esoteric knowledge.
 
Most of what I know about it, actually comes from a song by the Pixies. I’m pretty sure such things are to be avoided though.
 
Angelina, if it’s the perceived mysticism of the Rosicrucians that seems intriguing, there are great Catholic mystics to read, like St. Teresa of Avila and St. John of the Cross.
 
I personally think it’s the Freemasons view of Christianity. What I dislike most about ii is the whole 12+1 gurus construction of it all. In those days people were surprised and probably sounded cool. Today I think people should be more cautious when a group who claims to know secrets just starts a new religion. I mean we see how hysteric the fans of celebs are, we should respect ourselves more than to just fall for any trick. Maybe the OP felt sick because it all sounded old in our new world.
