Thoughts on the obligation to attend Mass during times of pestilence

Some common sense with the backing of Canon Law. Thanks for the post.
 
Do you know if there is any historical basis for cancelling masses throughout a diocese as is being done throughout the world? I cannot find any other time in history when this has been done.
 
Written records get scanty the further back we go. It might have been quite common a couple of centuries ago but it would be hard for anyone but a historian to find out.
In any case we’re allowed to miss Sunday Mass if it’s for serous reasons. Genuine threat of infectious disease sounds serious to me.
 
I have a feeling that now that many diocese’s have suspended Mass obligations that this will end up causing another mass exodus (pun intended)!

I think people will just get used to not going and decide that they don’t really “need” to go.
