It really hurt me to see this. My mom and sisters participate in the 40 days for life. I am in college and you hear a lot of things all the time about how we are crazy or we go overboard. Are there medical exceptions when abortion is okay? They said in that video that the baby was going to be born dead anyway. It seems like the guy really believes he is just defending his wife. I don’t know. I would never believe that the Catholic church is wrong, i am just so overwhelmed with hearing it all the time. Please tell me what i’ve believed my whole life isn’t wrong.

Dear John,

You are not wrong to be pro-life. Even if abortion were justified (and it isn’t) in the case of the man in the video, such cases are extremely rare. The same goes for arguments for abortion based on incest/rape/serious illness in the baby/threat to mother’s life. In my country (New Zealand), fewer than one percent of abortions are performed with such justification. I would ask the man in the video if the murder of a thousand innocent, healthy babies is justified in order to prevent some kind of harm to one mother.

If anyone was ‘going overboard’ in that video, it was that man with his belligerent, confrontational manner. You have only to read the comments below the video to realize why you ‘hear things all the time’ about the Roman Catholic Church being crazy. It is because our ‘progressive’ Western society has been brainwashed with anti-Christian propaganda by the education system and media. Throughout her history, the Church has consistently been the strongest proponent of the rights of unborn and young children in the world. If Christians don’t speak up for these babies’ right to life, virtually no one else will.

God bless you,
z

Hi John,

First off, I didn’t watch the video, as I was afraid it might be disturbing , and I just wasn’t up to that at the moment. 🙂

But, I do want to respond to this part of your comment:

Doctors are not infallible. There have been many documented cases of incorrect diagnoses in the womb. There have also been many documented cases of predicted deaths in the womb (or shortly thereafter), in which the child did not die, but went on to thrive and grow.

Here are a couple I was able to find quickly:

In February 1995, when I was 18 weeks pregnant and driving my car in Johor Bahru, I felt a sudden gush of liquid wetting the seat of the car. There was so much of fluid that the seat was entirely soaked. I realised that my water-bag had burst, and that the amniotic fluid that surrounds the baby had leaked out, until there was no more fluid left.

I rushed to see an Obstetric & Gynaecologist specialist (OBGYN) who admitted me immediately into a hospital in Johor. I was informed that at 18 weeks of age, my baby would not survive without the amniotic fluid and that I might as well have an abortion to terminate the pregnancy.

Guess what? She survived and thrived! :): alife.org.sg/en_story06.php

“No, it will not matter which way you chose to deliver,** your baby just will not survive, you should make the arrangements now for her funeral**. I’m sorry.” Just like that, just that cold.

Well, she lived and is now three years old. 🙂 You can see her picture and read her full story here: swartley.blogspot.com/2009/09/our-story-sonyas-story-my-100th-post.html

I hope that these real-life experiences have brought you some hope and peace of mind. 🙂

I watched the video…it was disturbing how emotional this man got and how he was defending those who have/would have abortions. He claimed to be a father already and wanted another child, yet he was supporting abortion? I would give him the benefit of the doubt on this, BUT why is he posting the video publicly on youtube and another blog? I bet one day he will realize that posting this video was wrong…God have mercy on him

We don’t see from the video exactly how the women were protesting, but if they were yelling at the women going into the clinic, as the man claims in the video, it would seem to be counterproductive.

Exactly!!

So these ladies protesting have him so distraught that he records and posts the encounter on the internet???

Sort of makes you wonder if he’s fabricating the whole story, although I’m going to take him at his word. In any case, I think there was a lot more going on here besides a guy who spontaneously whipped out his cell phone and recorded this encounter.

Two problems here:
  1. IF the protesters were yelling at his wife as she was going into the clinic, as the man in the video said, methinks that’s not a productive practice. However, from the video we don’t know if this is the case or not, or if the man just said that to be inflammatory.
Silent vigils are the way to go.
  1. As discussed, IF the situation was as the man described, it’s very curious that he would first, videotape it (not sure if he used a cell-phone, which he probably would have been carrying with him or that perhaps he brought along a recording device, planning on confronting these protesters) and second, post it so that the entire planet could see.
IF this is such a distressing, painful matter for him/them, why would you want to broadcast it to the world??
  1. IF everything is true, and the man just wanted to make a point, don’t you think he’d have included a clip of the women protesting?
I don’t know. To me, this sort of thing is entirely inappropriate. This guy is going through with this abortion and instead of staying with his wife, goes and confronts the protesters. Maybe the guy just has a short fuse, I dunno. Maybe others have a less skeptical view of his motives…

My sympathies go out to those who are distraught over an abortion; those considering it, those going through with it and those who are dealing with the guilt of it.

There is something more to this. The emotional man did not want to just confront pro-life supporters but to make a big public statement. He (or an accomplice) was prepared to begin video recording the encounter right at the start then posting to the Internet. That requires at least some forethought and planning.

Sounds like a man in pain.

He likely feels the guilt ever more acutely when he sees or hears the protest.
Of course he will lash out at them.
