A man walked up to a Franciscan and Jesuit and asked, “How many novenas must you say to get a Mercedes Benz?”

The Franciscan asked, “What’s a Mercedes Benz?”

The Jesuit asked, “What’s a novena?”

😃
Haha

Very funny
What IS a novena by the way?
(Just kidding)

I would also love to go into some type of pro-life ministry, if that is possible (I’m sure it is).
I’m pretty sure I’m not called to diocese, though.
Do you think that you will take the fourth vow? I think that would be one of the main reasons I would want to be a Jesuit.
If God spares me, I will definitely take the fourth vow.
(The fourth vow, for those of you who don’t know, is a vow of special obedience to the pope that a Jesuit makes after his tertianship - which in turn is like a second novitiate)

But that’s between 12 - 15 years from now. Right now, I’m just too happy to be entering the novitiate 😃

I am a BIG pro-life person! It just disgusts me the way that they treat those babies.

How many pro-lifers does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
6. One to screw it in and 5 to testify that it was lit since the time they began screwing it. 😛
What’s with all the jokes in this thread? You people are supposed to be discerning the priesthood… I’m sure one of these days there will be someone asking on this thread, “Is there an order full of stand up comedians? Other than the Jesuits, of course… although I do hear that the Marians are great at slapstick” Or something like that.

oh come on! us future priest can have fun! 😃 This is our thread! BOOM-BABY!!! 😃

actually 13 but you were close! 😃
I meant the other guy. I know you’re 13.
We should probably get back to the subject matter of this thread

I just hope you maintain your faith and dedication 'till you’re 18. Still a long way off.

Oh no, God is holding me and I’m pretty sure that he is not letting go! Anyone ever heard of Notre Dame in New Orleans? (seminary)

You know, actually, that isn’t a bad idea.

Most of the time, we get these vinettes of saints as beings austere, but certainly they were filled with joy and quite likely fun loving, also. Maybe there ought to be an order which focuses on the funny, the happy, the joy filled life. A community which laughs! Indeed, it could well be their charism.

Quite right! I’m sure that many of you might remember that old saying that “a sad saint is a sorry saint.” St. Philip Neri was known to be a practical jokester and often used humor to make a religious/devotional point amongst his Oratorians.

Ok we’ll start right away! 😃 We need a monestary first! You could be our founder. 😛

Hey guys I know besides my comments about the large number of men discerning Jesuit life, I haven’t been saying much about my own thoughts about where I’m headed so I thought I’d give an update. So for the past month or so I have felt more deeply at peace with the idea of being a priest. I had this interesting feeling one night that I was having a sort of conversation with God about being married as opposed to the priesthood. Then the idea popped into my head asking me would you die for what you believe? I thoguht to myself yes without a doubt. Then I felt the response was, if you would give your life in that manner what is the problem in giving your life in celibacy. That kind of made me think more about my priorities…😊 Besides that fact who am I to ignore a genuine call that the Lord has given. So not really groundbreaking but a very humbling experience.

No, no, no! We have to be an ACTIVE order. We will offer the ministry of comedy in the midst of an all too serious society. All the world will laugh at, er with, us and be led to the great HA-HA.

We will be traveling troubadours and live upon the goodwill of the people who surround us.

Isn’t there a Saint Humourous?

Ok then we’ll have a comedy house attached! 😃

But anyway back on topic.
I’ve been serving daily in the mass this summer and it is awesome! It just makes me wish I was almost there but I have four years of high school and eight of seminary. 🤷 My pastor and I are working on plans to build an Adoration chapel at my church. They have always complained that they did not have enough room. Well we went out yesterday and walked around and found the perfect place! 👍 I just hope it goes through with everything else. I’m praying for it. :signofcross: That’s pretty much what’s going on with me!

It’s just so wonderful to see so many guys posing themselves the same question. Should I, shouldn’t I. What if. Anyway - have you made contact with a Jesuit vocations director in your area yet?
Where are you in the application process?

I can understand the impatience. But believe me. Being 13 has its blessings too. Have you chosen a name for the chapel?

Not that I’m aware of. But you’re right. There should be one.haha - love the great HA HA - Where did you come up with that!

So, Chicago - I’m too lazy to go read historix threads. Are you discerning / busy studying…?

No, I’m still in high school and I think that even though my vocation seems to be confirmed I’d like to go to college before seminary as my pastor told me that to many priests these days don’t know enough about anything else. I guess thats probably a good reason to get some knowledge under my belt. Of course he was a physicist before he became a priest so it could just be that 😉

" The Chapel of Our Blessed Mother’s Son "

I watched a show about the priesthood and I know that God is calling me because my loning for the priesthood has increased. I feel like the saints of old who had to wait patiently to do the things that God commanded them to do. 🙂

We’ll have to get one of the old 19th century houses from the Rush Street district (which used to serve as comedy clubs in the 70s) before they’re all torn down and converted to high rise condominiums. Shoot, back in the day we could have ministered to all the prostitutes and drug addicts and drunks in the area. Now, it’s just touristy and upscale. Not that there aren’t plenty of drunks and druggies left. But they have real money now. Lots of underage suburbanites in the bars by State and Division. And the whores aren’t just standing around on the streets anymore. Plus, they cost a lot more. How boring. Sin and salvation used to be so much more fun. Now it is merely corporatized.
