Adoro Te Devote latens Deitas!

Yeah, the *Society of Jesus *is starting to get more and more atractive to me…
Are they ever assigned to a Diocesan Parish?

XC per BVM

They definitely are with diocesan parishes. I go to a Jesuit church at BC that has Jesuit priests. I think with the priest shortage dioceses are seeking them out.

There’s a new issue of VISION magazine out which has a number of good articles in it.

One is by Tom Gibbons who is in his 2nd year with the Paulists. Tom has a great blog, www.tgibbons.blogspot.com, ‘Kicking and Screaming’. He is very smart, witty and a great writer. Probably not for the EWTN set, as he himself says. He entered in his mid-30’s after discerning for 10 years. He also has produced a very good video for the Paulists, which I think is available on his blog and possibly YouTube.

hey guys! so anyway i took alot of advice and was told my my priest that i should start a blog so I did! www.teencatholic.blogspot.com I hope all of you read it! Also if you have a blog can you please link me? Thanks! 🙂

Hey, I just stumbled upon this thread…looks pretty cool! It is nice to find a place where we can all get together!!!

I am 23 and am currently in my novitiate year with the Order of Carmelites. I was previously a diocesan seminarian for two years. I recently completed my degree in Philosophy from Loyola University Chicago. I am in my fourth year of formation for the Priesthood now, and I am loving it!!!

hey everyone! I am thinking about the benedictines very strongly. It is a community of Catholics who show unconditional love towards one another and it is centered on a solid prayer life.

Are you thinking of St. Joseph’s Abbey in Covington. I have been professed as a Benedictine Oblate through that abbey since 1962. My prayers are with you.

I and my wife will definitely keep you in prayer. She is also an Oblate, professed through St Joseph’s Abbey, in 2003. she made her final oblation there the year before Katrina hit. Please keep us in prayer also and keep us posted on your progress. We will follow with much interest.

I have seriously been rethinking about discerning the priesthood. How would I get a spirit director if I happen to do so? Do I choose them on my own? It’s not really been made to clear to me.

You may wish to speak to your vocations director in your diocese or the order in which you are interested and they can often refer you to someone locally. Another good place to turn is your parish priest. He will lead you in the right direction. If you know a priest you may like to give you spiritual direction, ask them, being mindful of their schedules, and if they are too busy, asking for a recommendation.

My spiritual director is a priest I knew through my church and local Jesuit community. He was willing to meet with me on a monthly basis.

Any information on the Pontifical College Josephinum…ie: seminary life, classes, orthodoxy, liturgy, and (negative:confused: ) attitude towards Traditionalists.
Thanks

As a Pontifical College, it is under the direct supervision of Rome. It would have to be totally orthodox.

Te Deum laudamus!

Does anyone know about the Fransiscans of the Immaculate?
My theology teacher left our school after only one year teaching to join them…

So, anyone that is currently in their discernment process (prior to entering seminary)… What is your progress? How long have you been discerning for? Are you close to deciding you wish to enter?

I have been discerning for a few months and have really been feeling drawn much closer to thoughts of religious life. I’ve been discussing it with my spiritual director and he says that my feelings of excitement and draw are good indicators of the call. I’ve been reading “In Good Company” by James Martin, S.J. which is about how he left the corporate finance world and all its immoral corruption and lack of values to join the Jesuits. He really was not very religious, but felt the calling and he was quite anxious to join!

As I read the book I get excitement for the thoughts of me entering. A friend the other day asked me where I would be for seminary. Gosh, I had no idea… that is, if I ended up choosing that life, I said. I don’t want to be premature, but since the application process is the continuation of discernment in a more formal way, I feel that maybe within the next few months I should look into applying. Just wanted some thoughts from others.

hello all
I am seriously thinking about the religious life and the priesthood. I am 16 right now entering my junior year. Unfortunately, I live in a very liberal unorthodox place. I love the Latin mass, but a solemn, respectful NO is fine for me. Our Abp won’t allow a Latin mass in the city, but in surrounding suburbs. I have always considered becoming a priest since I was little, because of my very religious family, and I went to a good parish. I really started to consider it last October. I kept telling others I want to be a lawyer, then I said business man, and finally, while talking to my mother, she told me she knew priest was probably my choice. However, since I come from a very poor family, and now, I have the oppurtunity to go to a good college and get a good job to buy a house for my mom and grandma, I feel I may dissapoint them, it they have told me whatever I want to do, they will support me 100%. My high school is run by the marianists, who have become pretty liberal. I fuligure to just finish up hs, go get my theololgy, philosophy, or history degree, then decide what I’ll do.
First, I looked into the Fssp. They told me to finish high school, and find a spiritual advisor. I sort of felt they weren’t that enthusiastic. Also, I thought becoming a strictly traditional priest would limit my ministry. Then, I considered becoming a diocesan priest, being an example of orthodoxy in a wasteland of liberalism, modernism, and spiritual relatavism. I then discovered the Franciscans of the Immaculate. They seemed very interested, sent me books and a large miraculous medal, and told me that an 18 year old had recently enters the order. Recently, I feel called toward the Dominicans. However, they have a repuatation for liberalism in the province of the west coast. I have asked the advice of several priest, and have been told told to apply myself in school, gain dominion over my mind and my body, and love our lord in the Eucharist and to love our blessed mother. Any advice would be helpful.
Thanks

I have heard of some religious orders houseing their parents who can’t take care of themselves. I for one am thinking of the religious life too! 👍 I am leaning towards the benedictians! They have an abbey near my home in Covington, Louisiana.

Well, here’s my story: I’m a 21-year old college senior that’s been in discernment towards the consecrated life, in particular priesthood, for nearly a year now. I haven’t made much progress in figuring out what God intends for me to do, but I’ve been curious about the FSSP for some time. However, I realize that most American dioceses are in dire need of priests, and especially in Alaska. (The Fairbanks Diocese, my home turf and the last international mission diocese in the United States, has only 17 priests in toto to handle 46 parishes and missions.)
However, I’m especially drawn to the Extraordinary form. I’ve read on the website for OLGS that the FSSP accepts diocesan seminarians. Does anyone know if diocesan seminarians can study at OLGS for their full seven years? I’ve heard nothing but good things about the FSSP & their seminaries, and would love to go there, God willing.

From what you have documented, my thoughts would direct you North to Alaska. It seems that there is more mission work and evangelization that would be needed. Be a willing, reluctant servant.
