So I’ve taken the step and initiated communication with the Jesuit vocation director. I can’t believe I’m doing this. I’m excited and nervous at the same time. Please keep me in your prayers.

Has anyone else taken a move to more formal discernment, such as applying to an order or seminary?

Thats really funny I just introduced myself to the Jesuit vocations director as well!!

That’s awesome! Which province? I’m in the New England Province. How long have you been discerning?

Andy

New Orleans…a couple of years.
I live by NEW ORLEANS!!! I LOVE THE CITY!!! 😃

So here’s an update. I contacted the vocations director of the EWTN monks. I know that I am young but my parish priest, my friend Grant, and I have all talked. Me and grant have our eyes set on becoming EWTN Monks! (that’s just what we call them) So please pray for me and I keep all of you in my prayers!

I can’t believe you are already contacting the vocations director. I decided I was going to wait till after Junior year:p
On a side note, I’m pretty sure I’m going to do the Crossroads walk across country after senior year and I’m considering taking a year off after High School to do an intership at a Lifeteen camp called Covecrest, which is about 2 hours north of where I live, to continue my discernment and I really want to get a year of mission as a single layman before I enter pre-theolgicate. I’m still looking at orders though and I’m pretty sure I’m going to be a religious priest. The question is, which order?

Yeah well my plan is to finish high school and ship off to Alabama!
YOu guys know that in Europe they accept kids as young as 16-17? I watched that show on EWTN “The Nun” it was pretty good! But yes I contacted him and he said that as soon as I turn 18 I can spend the school holidays with them! I know it is from God because everytime I see them on TV or a picture on the web I just want to hop on a plane to Birmingham and join right away! Also some other complicated things.

P.S. I started a novena to Our Lady to ask that she relieve the suffering of our Lord due to the sins commited at my school. Sometimes I feel like I am in Sodom and Gammorah and that God might rain down fire on my head at any minute! But yes is is to Our Lady of Good Success. I have been reading Mother Mariana’s biography and it is awesome! I have fallen in love with the woman!!

Hi y’all! Could you all pray for me please? I’m meeting with the Bishop of St. Catharines on Nov 21.
Thank you!

I’ll be praying too!

November 21 is also St. Albert of Louvain’s feast day. He is the patron saint of hats. I love hats.

I’m probably going to find a spiritual director soon!

Today’s events definitely confirmed my vocation in my mind. I was helping a friend film a video down in our school chapel. When he was practicing his lines I was just wandering around the chapel, taking everything in. I then just aimlessly strolled over to the altar and looked out at all the pews. I got this weird sensation in my whole body and just felt overwhelmed with God’s love. All I could think was “this is it, this is what I have to do.” My friend looked over at me cause I was staring into space and simply asked “like that?” I just said “Yes, I do.” It was the first time I’d voiced to any of my peers that I seriously am considering the priesthood.

Brothers! There is a social group now for those discerning priesthood! I encourage you all to join 🙂

Don’t worry! I had to search for 6 months before I could find one. Until then, the Holy Spirit was my guide. 🙂

YAY!!! God works so awesomely!!! Heres the story:

I asked Fr. C to be my spiritual director at the beginning of the month. After two weeks i told myself if he did not reply in the next two days I would ask Fr. E to be my SD. Well, everytime I tried to talk to Fr. E, something would come up and I never got the chance. Then, yesterday, I went to Abbeyfest and saw Fr. C. He told me that he got my message and the Holy Spirit inclined him to say yes, but his computer had been broken!! 😛 Well, I guess God really wanted me to go to Fr. C.

Pax Christi!

Stripping Off The Old Self

To be prepared for true change is to learn to let go of old ways of thinking
and doing. Detachment is the process of letting go of the familiar so that
the heart and mind can be opened to learning to live by a new way. In other
words, it is, to empty the heart of all that is not of God in order to
prepare a place for Him. It is to empty the hands of treasure held and to
open them to receive the cross.

“Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth,
for you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God… Put to
death, therefore, whatever in you is earthly: fornication, impurity,
passion, evil desire, and greed (which is idolatry)… you have stripped off
the old self with its practices and have clothed yourselves with the new
self, which is being renewed in knowledge according to the image of its
creator.” (Colossians 3.2,3,5,9b-10)

Letting Go

Detachment is a letting go
Of pleasures and treasures held dear;
The process is painful and slow –
The heart’s whole storehouse has to clear.

By grace, the Lord propels the heart
To leave behind all it desires;
With the old ways falling apart,
The lure of sin no longer mires.

He provides ways and means to pry
The heart from what it clings to last;
The cross demands the old ways die –
Left in the dust of all things past.

Though the heart aches with emptiness
And appetites nearly destroyed,
The Lord’s actions are pure kindness –
For He Himself will fill the void!

Let go of all the heart’s treasure;
The Lord repays beyond measure.

“He must increase, but I must decrease.” (John 3.30)

Lord, detach me from all that is not of You, so that I may live for You
alone and that You may fill the emptiness of my heart to overflowing. Amen.

in Christ,
